The Nike Air Max JR has been curiously MIA as of late, with the Nike Air Max Griffey Fury seemingly taking over as the Griffey meets Air Max hybrid of choice for the moment. Blazing its way back onto the scene is this colorway, a turquoise and pink pairing that no doubt reminds you of another MIA sneaker. Hit the jump with us to see the full view of this high energy Nike Air Max JR release (a pair some have come to call the “Home Run Derby”) and pick up a pair for yourself from NSW retailer Oneness. Also, keep it locked with Sneaker News for a look at an upcoming Nomo edition bearing the same cray colors.

Nike Air Max JR ‘Eggplant’

November 29th, 2011 by | 16 comments

nike air max jr eggplant 1 Nike Air Max JR Eggplant

After a relatively brief period that started when the Air Foamposite One hit in early 2009 in this unmistakable purple shade, Nike Sportswear has dialed down the frequency of its ‘Eggplant’ releases.  The most recent sighting was on a pair of Zoom Rookie LWPs, an Air Penny mashup that has obvious connections to the original matte metallic purple release.  And from the Penny Hardaway hybrid we move toward another 1990′s Nike legend for a new Nike Air Max JR that might make you wonder how many records Ken Griffey Jr. could have set as a member of the Colorado Rockies.  The ‘Eggplant’ Air Max JR reminds us of the 1998 Home Run Derby where Junior nearly doubled his second place foe, a guy in Vinny Castilla who himself had benefitted majorly from playing in the Mile High City’s notoriously thin air.  Click through to get some more angles of this iridescent purple design and look for a pair today at NSW retailers like Foot Locker.

Nike Air Max JR ’3M’ – Available

nike air max jr 3m 5 570x427 Nike Air Max JR 3M Available

While the NBA players and owners continue to wage a cold war, the hot stove is keeping baseball warm in the press with word that a new collective bargaining agreement will radically realign the leagues and divisions, resulting in year-round interleague play. But even if some of baseball’s traditions change to accommodate the evolving economics of big time pro sports, you can bet the game’s best will begin their offseason preparations in earnest soon after the conclusion of the season. And just a couple of weeks after the World Series wrapped up, it’s just that time, and what better way to reflect the evolution of the game than a hybrid based on a beloved classic trainer like the Nike Air Max JR? This insane new 3M edition is a suitable compliment to the Vapor Flash Jacket we just showed you or any of the Swoosh’s other reflective fare, and you’ll find them right now at select Nike Sportswear retailers like Extra Butter or on eBay.

Nike Air Max JR – ‘White Sox’ + ‘Cincinnati Reds’ | Release Reminder

October 21st, 2011 by | 8 comments

nike air max jr white sox reds release reminder Nike Air Max JR White Sox + Cincinnati Reds | Release Reminder

When we associate a superstar player with one team, seeing said star wear another jersey is a rather tough pill to swallow. Griffey in a White Sox uni, Patrick Ewing in a Sonics/Magic jersey, heck, even MJ in Wizards Blue/Gold was a bit funky. Ken Griffey Jr. will always be tied to White/Teal Mariners colors, and although he poetically ended his career by returning to Seattle, we can’t overlook his years as a Cincinnati Red and his short span with the Southside White Sox. Just yesterday, Sneaker News gave you notice about the Cincinnati Reds Air Max JR releasing in November, but it looks like some retailers, like MrRSports, will drop them early tomorrow, alongside the ‘White Sox’ edition (which will drop on Nikestore). Still not sure which one you like better? Check out the detailed shots below and let us know your pick, and be sure to snag one of the two (or both) tomorrow at Nike Sportswear retailers or on eBay.

Nike Air Max JR ‘Cincinnati Reds’ – November 2011

October 20th, 2011 by | 8 comments

nike air max jr tonal red november 2011 summary Nike Air Max JR Cincinnati Reds November 2011

The recent release of the Nike Air Max JR have taken an unofficial formulaic approach of tonal colorways attributed to the teams that Ken Griffey Jr. played for. The last tonal-black pair we showed you was dubbed the ‘White Sox’, although Jr.’s time with the South Side was rather short. Here’s another look at the Tonal Red ‘Cincinnati Reds’ colorway – one we showed you back in March; it features a sinister Varsity Red covering the entire shoe with a white swoosh on the the toe as well as on accents on the lace-hoops. If the tonal team theme continues, how awesome would an all-Freshwater pair of JRs be? Check out the additional shots of this November 2011 release below and let us know what you think.

Most of the colorways of the Nike Air Max JR we’ve seen up to this point have been fairly flashy, either boasting 3M treatment or a heavy dose of Total Orange, Blue Glow, etc. So if you’ve been waiting for a toned down look on these, we’ve got you covered with the above ‘White Sox’ colorway. This Nike Air Max JR reps the black and white, just like Griff did during his tenure in Chicago. Follow us after the jump for an additional look at the ‘White Sox’ colorway for the Nike Air Max JR and be on the lookout for them come Saturday at spots like Premier.

The Nike Air Max JR is a sneaker that feels futuristic regardless of the colorway, thanks to the updated look provided by the 360 Max Air unit on bottom. However, if there is anything than can give a shoe even more of a high-tech feel it’s the 3M treatment. Displayed properly on the preview we gave you here, these will give off an unmistakable glow under the right lightning. And at all other times you can rock them as a clean cool grey-esque colorway.
