Griffey’s footwear line has enjoyed a healthy revival in the past couple of years, and it seems to be one that takes the hybrid treatment better than most. Take the Nike Air Max JR for instance, an updated issue of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 featuring a breathable torch upper and a glorious 360 Max-Air sole kit. We’ve seen this one in a handful of flavors already, with the above pictured Total Orange edition just around the corner. This creamsicle colored version of the Nike Air Max JR is officially dropping on September 17th, but they’ve started to pop up already at spots like Oneness in Kentucky. Take a full look at the Nike Air Max JR in total orange after the jump and let us know how they compare to the other colorways we’ve seen of this hybridized Griffey release.

Far too many MLB careers have been soured by talks of doping and the like, but Griffey is one of the honorable few who put up gigantic numbers without any performance enhancers. With that being said, we can forgive the man for getting a little enhancement boost in his sneakers with the Nike Air Max JR. This hybridized version from the Griffey legacy of sneakers features a full 360 Air unit on the sole and an upgraded Torch upper for extra breathability. Follow us after the jump for an additional look at the brand new Grey/Blue Glow color way of the Nike Air Max JR, available at Eastbay now.

Veteran slugger Jim Thome stands on the verge of joining baseball’s ’600 Club’, and though MLB’s offensive numbers have taken on an offensive connotation to many of the game’s purists, this remains one accomplishment you can’t just achieve with a little help from a doctor’s script. In fact, the kind of sustained brilliance necessary to attain the magic 600 home runs is a big reason why Ken Griffey Jr. will be more fondly remembered than some of the guys who have also recently placed high on the career homers list. Griffey’s irreproachable image and jaw-dropping athleticism mean that even if Sammy Sosa corks a bat in the forest and no one hears it, we all still fondly remember the late ’90s slugfest through reminders like the Nike Air Max JR. This ‘Freshwater’ colorway recalls the original Air Griffey Max 1 from ’96 and just popped up available at NikeStore and on eBay.

Hip-hop artist Nelly recently attended a charity event in Beverly Hills, CA for a celebrity poker tournament event. The event featured both celebrities and poker pros, as Nelly, Mekhi Phifer, Kevin Hart, Paul Pierce, Irv Gotti, and more played some Hold’Em against poker pros Phil Laak , Jennifer Tilly, and more. Nelly, who isn’t a newbie to the game (he won the Rolling Stone’s Celebrity Poker Tournament) showed up to the hot outdoor even wearing the Nike Air Max JR in the Grey/Volt colorway. It certainly kept him cool throughout, as he enjoyed a days worth of table games (poker and ping-pong) without breaking a sweat. Check out Nelly and the Air Max JR after the jump and stay tuned to Sneaker News for more celebrity feet coverage!

Baseball and sneakers never really went hand-in-hand, unless Ken Griffey Jr. was the topic. No other Major League baseball player has had a signature line of sneakers as powerful and long-lasting as that of Griffey’s, which is what makes the Nike Griffey line all the more special. Nike Sportswear just extended the Griffey life plan with the introduction of the Air Max JR – the Air Griffey Max 1-inspired 360 Max-Air cushioned athletic training shoe that was first seen on Sneaker News in September of last year. You can find both Griffey releases at Nike retailers like Extra Butter soon so check out the great baseball-inspired gallery of images below and let us know if you like prefer the Air Griffey Max 1 over the Air Max JR. You can also find either of the new Freshwater Griffey releases now on eBay.

So Griffey’s triumphant return to the Mariners may have been a bit of letdown, but the recent resurgence of his footwear line is anything but. The Nike Air Max JR is a hybridized version of Griffey’s initial footwear offering, the Nike Air Griffey Max 1. This updated edition of the shoe sees a more advanced air technology in the form of the 360 Max Air sole, and also sees the removal of the upper strap, opting for a traditional lacing system. We’re here with a look at a new black and white colorway of the Nike Air Max JR, with black dominating and the white showing up for accenting purposes-both on the laceloops and the forefoot Swoosh. This is certainly a more subtle approach than the recent wacky colorways of the Nike Air Max JR that we’ve seen. Hit the jump to take a full look at the Nike Air Max JR in black and white and stay tuned with us for release info.
