Earlier today we have you a glimpse into Penny’s personal Air Foamposite One collection, but the buck doesn’t stop there. Of course, the Foamposite One is just one of several Air Penny signature shoes to have released, so in this second showcase, Penny shows off other sick Nikes branded with his iconic 1-Cent logo. Zoom Rookies (remember the Memphis Blues and Express joints were one-of-ones first!), Air Max Penny 1s, Forces – it’s all here. Flip through the gallery of this amazing set of kicks and let us know which of Penny’s non-Foam collection stands out to you the most!

NIKE AIR PENNY WEEK
We finished last week with a stretch of ’90s Basketball Classics, so why not keep it in the family? It was a dream for Knicks fans to welcome Penny Hardaway to the revered NYC backcourt, only the timing of his arrival wasn’t exactly optimal. While the era of Penny Hardaway as a Knickerbocker is one most NY fans tend to forget, what should never be forgotten is perhaps one of the best Air Penny sneakers of all-time the Air Max Penny 1 in the ‘Knicks’ colorway. Arriving in stores in May of 2005 alongside a slew of other Air Max Penny 1 colorways, this ‘Knicks’ version was a simple upgrade of the original ‘Orlando Magic’ colorway, adding a Royal Blue inner bootie and Orange trim on the Max Air unit and other surrounding details. Nike Basketball never had a problem using Penny’s team colors with his kicks, and you’ll definitely catch wind of that later this week when we focus on more Air Penny releases for this week of Classics Revisited!

Today’s chapter in the Nike Basketball history book is a discussion of one of many models that makes 1995-96 arguably the best season on record, but this story has its nexus somewhere between the 1992 Air Raid and Air Max2 CB ’94 posts that preceded it. Draft Day ’93 introduced the entire world to Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway, a brilliant oversized point guard from the then-relatively unheralded University of Memphis. It was on June 30th of that year that the Orlando Magic traded the rights to #1 pick Chris Webber of Michigan Fab Five (and Air Flight Huarache) fame, cementing Penny’s return from a gunshot that just two years earlier had jeopardized his entire career.
Webber went on to win that season’s Rookie of the Year award, but in Hardaway, Orlando had a once-a-generation talent who would become the face of the franchise and arguably the most successful Nike signature athlete of the mid-to-late ’90s not named ‘Michael Jordan’. After a couple of playoff appearances including the 1995 NBA Finals run and a rocking bunch of notable styles like the Air Flight One, Air Go LWP and Air Up, Eric Avar laced Penny with a groundbreaking design that foreshadowed changes to come in the Beaverton B-Ball division.
The Nike Air Max Penny (1) debuted around the start of the ’95-96 season with a style that defied the Flight and Force conventions, foreshadowed Foamposite with its prominent, wavy midsole and helped to launch the Uptempo line for a new generation of explosive perimeter players. The Air Max Penny also furthered Hardaway’s connection to the then ‘Tensile Air’ that first appeared on the AF One, paving the way for the explosion of Zoom Air that’s still one of the Swoosh’s premier cushioning platforms. Introducing the Chris Rock-voiced Lil Penny marionette along with the unveiling of Penny’s ’1c’ logo pushed this design over the top, and made for another memorable classic that has us excited to see what will be the next chapter on Monday?

Our mid-week coverage of NBA Feet continues with this nice collection of sneaker sightings from the games of the last two nights. Some of Monday’s highlights included the ‘twinsies’ of the Air Jordan XIII ‘Playoffs’, worn by Nate Robinson and Monta Ellis, followed by the Air Jordan X ‘Chicago’ once again by Rockets guard Courtney Lee. Delonte West of the Dallas Mavericks wore the Nike Air Penny III HoH Exclusive in the rip-stop material, but the best Air Penny sighting of the last two days was Earl Clarks’ Nike Air Max Penny 1. The first Nike Zoom Kobe VII iD kicks surfaced on the feet of Hakim Warrick and Amir Johnson (both opting for the ‘Attack Fast’ option). Is it even possible that another pair of Nike Zoom Rookie LWPs could have stolen the show on a day when a sick Orlando ‘home’-styled colorway dropped among five all-new takes on Nike Sportswear’s Penny Hardaway greatest hits? That depends what you think of the brief glimpse of an all-blue Zoom Rookie worn by Anfernee himself during the release event of his special five-pack at Nike Las Vegas. This event featured our first look at all the new Air Foamposite Ones and Pros we showed you earlier today, and it looks like even more’s on the way for 2012 with a ‘Think Pink’ Foam One peeking through a case that’s been stuffed with about two grand of NSW’s foamy favorites. Check out a bunch of photos from this weekend’s event after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for all the 2012 Foamposite release dates. via US10

If you caught yesterday’s feature of Hawaii Mike’s 25 Favorite Sneakers (in his apartment), you would’ve laid your eyes on some of the rarest, most niche-friendly sneakers ever created. In the sneaker game diversity is always appreciated, but that isn’t saying that you can’t build a passion for sneakers by loving only the classics. Hip-hop artist J. Cole is one celebri-sneakerhead that we’ve been following for some time and you might’ve noticed by now that he doesn’t stray too far from tried and true favorites, like the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’, Nike Air Foamposite One in Royal, and even the Reebok Question. Check out some of J. Cole’s 10 Favorite Sneakers below and head to Complex to round out the entire list.

Electric Green has infiltrated the Air Penny fortress, one that had been closely guarded by Black, Royal Blue and White tones for nearly two decades. Of course, once Anfernee’s reign in Orlando came to an end, we saw other interesting Air Penny color-ups in PHX Suns Purple/Orange and Miami Heat Black/Red/Yellow, but Electric Green? Where did that come from? In 2011, Nike Sportswear introduced the Nike Air Foamposite One and Pro in Electric Green colorways as well as the original Air Max Penny 1, which was featured as part of a ‘Highlighter Pack’ of Nike Basketball kicks.
Jason Negron, who’s sole swap-frenzy concepts have resulted in some great custom jobs, shows us his first featured chopped and screwed Air Max Penny 1, in which the white foam overlay from the original ‘Orlando‘ colorway is transplanted onto the Black/Electric Green base for a head-turning new look. Again, a job well done by the New Jersey-native sneaker customizer, so continue reading for a detailed look at his latest Air Penny swappage and hit up his Facebook page to inquire about your own personal customs.
