Sneaker News is jumping back into the Sneakerpedia archives once again. What’s the topic this time? We wanted to give a little bit more shine to the Visible Air technology, Tinker’s brainchild that quietly celebrated its 25th anniversary as of last year. We dug through the various collections on display over at Sneakerpedia in an attempt to uncover some of the most revered, aesthetically striking, and technologically advanced vis-Air sporting sneakers over the years. The result is a visual history of the progression of Nike’s Air Max revolution from 1987 all the way up to 2012. The Nike Air Max Pillar has been silent so far in 2013 after returning last year with a couple of original colorways plus some new styles. Here’s the first new one for the new year, a mix of Stealth and Club Purple that adds select Midas Gold accents to narrowly miss a ‘Kansas State’ tag. Nike Sportswear’s next trainer resurrection remains a mystery, but with plenty more models still in the archives, new color combos like this ensure a variety of looks for your old favorite silos. This December’s focus on the Oakland Raiders continues with this Black/Metallic Silver colorway of the Nike Air Max Pillar. It features a tonal black upper with a solid Metallic Silver midsole with contrast detailing on the upper, matching the Raiders colors to a tee and sitting right beside the Speed Turfs and Air Trainer SC Highs. But for anyone that can remember back to 2010′s Air Attack Pack – don’t these remind you of the Air Trainer III in Black/Silver because of the color-blocking? We should expect more Pillars done in this matter as we get more NFL-inspired joints, so check out additional angles below and look out for these this December 8th.

The Nike Air Max Pillar looks to get a little bit collegiate this weekend, bringing back the OG colorway pictued here with a very ‘Michigan Wolverines’ vibe to it. Or you could imagine that blue being bumped up a couple shades brighter and end up with a very different ‘Wolverine’ tribute (think X-Men), but we’re pretty sure that’s not what Nike was going for. A second original colorway of the Nike Air Max Pillar is headed for a release very soon – this November to be exact. If you passed on the OG Silver colorway or are looking to pair ‘em up with its fellow original, look no further than November 3rd, when the ‘Michigan Wolverines’ colorway hits retailers at a $180 price-tag. When it comes to the current retro treatment the the Nike Air Max Pillar is undergoing there’s no doubt that that first volt colored pair had the most buzz going, but keep in mind that that’s far from the extent of what Nike Sportswear has to offer for the return of this chunky trainer. Keeping things up as September rolls around is this black and sport red pair, one that reverses the colorblocking of the already dropped ‘Pine Green’ to let the black play a bigger role. To be considered a ‘pillar’ of one’s community, a person must be among their community’s key contributors, an outstanding example of an upstanding citizen. And while the late ’90s Nike Sportswear training retro pictured above can certainly claim to offer unique value, the ‘pillar’ designation should imply some regular appearances, right? Lucky for fans who remember its first run, the latter will finally be true as the Nike Air Max Pillar returns for the first time and reminds us how indispensible its unique design is when it comes to retelling the story from 1987′s Air Trainer 1 to the ’09 Trainer 1 reboot and beyond. This new Pine Green, Metallic Silver and black mix gives us a fresh taste on this model blocked after the OG ‘Michigan’ look and let us know if this August 11th release is one of the colorways you’ll add to your collection.
