The Nike Air Max Plus has had a pretty prolific 2013-you just wouldn’t know it if you only focused on stateside sneaker shelves. Folks around the rest of the world have been privy to the shoes though, an unfortunate detail which sort of makes sense given how much more heralded this model has historically been in say, the UK. The latest pair to get jealous over is this, a green camo version that doesn’t look too far out from the “Country Camo” pairs of Air Maxes that have been trickling into retailers over the past few months. See them in full detail after the jump and then grab a pair from Foot Locker France.

Nike Air Max Plus “Diablo Red”

You might not typically think of them as the most closely related because their respective wavy lines travel in opposite directions and the Max Air cushioning is quite different, but the Nike Air Max Plus is in some ways quite similar to the Air Max 97. Both are more popular in Europe and Asia than here in the States, both top of the line Max runners released in the late ’90s. The same Euro sneakerheads who love the 97s sleek lines have nicknamed the AM Plus ‘Tuned 1′ in reference to its Tuned Air and original Air Max TN name, but few 97 colorways outside of last year’s Hyperfuse edition pack the visual punch of this ‘Diablo Red’ Plus. Take a closer look after the jump, then see what you can do about getting them from the only stockist: Foot Locker EU.

Nike Air Max Plus – April 2013 Colorways

To allocate specific air pressures in different compartments of the Max Air unit was one of the most impressive evolutionary jumps in Air Max history. Although Tuned Air is no longer around, the engineering behind Tuned Air continues to be instilled in contemporary and future Max Air advancements, with the current 2013 unit utilizing specifically tuned Air pressures in different areas of the shoe. The Nike Air Max Plus was the first running shoe to feature this sick technology, and although Retro releases have dropped throughout the years (mostly overseas), it looks like the Air Max Plus is ready to be re-inserted in sneaker rotations as we get a look at three colorways hitting select overseas retailers this weekend. Check out the three colorways below and let us know if the Tuned Air Max Plus is one of your grails!

One of the must-have Air Max Retros for 2013 is the Nike Air Max Plus – the late 90′s classic that introduced Tuned Air technology to the world of Running footwear technology. Tuned Air took advantage of varying PSi in the Air bag engineered specifically for Running – a concept used even today with the latest Air Max+ 2013 engineered Air bag. This OG “Orange Blaze” colorway comes back with slight color variations, with Tour Yellow and Team Orange providing the insane lava-like gradient on the upper. These are headed for retailers very soon so refresh your memory below and stay tuned to Sneaker News for more updates.

The trendy camouflage print is pretty much everywhere nowadays, so ironically, it’s the plain-colored shoes that would probably be easier to spot on the street. Camo is hitting even the most obscure models (in today’s standards), but those who are in the know realize that the Nike Air Max Plus is a sure-fire classic – we even picked it as one of the 25 iconic Air Max shoes in a recent feature and one of our own editors picked it as one of his personal favorites of all-time. While Tuned Air is no longer in business, it fiercely shaped the way Air Max is done today and inspired the specially-engineered Air bags to be more specific to sport. These two Foot Locker EU exclusive releases utilize a camo-like print on the upper in two distinct colorways, so check them out below and do some overseas shopping if you need these.

With the Air Max Light and Classic BW slowing their pace of late and the Air Max 97 a traditionally sporadic contributor, the Nike Air Max Plus has emerged as Nike Sportswear’s top classic runner for the European market.  EU customers enjoy a steady stream of exclusive styles, the latest of which treats the model also known as ‘Tuned 1′ a Pure Purple-accented black and silver makeup.  The historical connections between America and the Eurozone create a subtle subtext for this ‘Kings’-leaning colorway, which you can see in greater detail below before you get a pair exclusively at Foot Locker EU.
