Apparently the various University of Oregon flavored Nike releases that make it to retail just aren’t enough to satisfy the appetite of Ducks fans nationwide. Giving them a little something extra is this Nike Air Penny V custom from Sole Swap. The sneaker spins the green and yellow look in the cool grey/tour yellow version of the Nike Air Penny V and is finished off with some custom insignias in the form of both the ‘Sole Swap’ patch and the Oregon ‘O’. Although a targeted ‘Phoenix Suns’ colorway of the Air Penny V already hit stores, the ‘Invisibility Cloak’ definitely fits that same bill thanks to the purple color-effect on the midsole. The Air Penny V makes its 2013 debut tomorrow with a release of two exciting colorways. The Royal Blue pair is a clear and present homage to the Memphis Tigers, where Penny honed his craft before heading to Orlando (by way of Golden State), while the ‘Total Crimson’ is just a spicy new take on this impressive model that has experienced great success since its debut. So who has been representing the Penny V the hardest in the NBA? Curiously enough, that distinction goes to Sixers Forward Thaddeus Young, who has been rotating both colorways at focus in-game. It’s always nice to see brand new designs like the Nike Air Penny V getting so much shine in a cultural so dominated by retros and re-issues. The sneakers have been such a success that Nike Sportswear has decided to keep them around for 2013, with this incognito colorway being next up. The strange yet successful signature sneaker after the fact that is the Nike Air Penny V is here to stay. 2013 has a couple of colorways coming, one of them being the Nike Air Penny V ‘Eggplant’ pictured here (or ‘Invisibility Cloak’ if you prefer). The pair had been previewed a handful of times back in 2012, but went quiet for a while and was almost deemed doomed in sample-purgatory. Whether you want to refer to it by its proper color Total Crimson, the previously reported Bright Crimson label or ‘Sunburst’ nickname, the latest Nike Air Penny V colorway is scorching hot. Maybe you could also call them ‘Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan and Dylan’, these fiery Penny Fives coming up for release as the first heat we’ve seen from the modern-day Penny Hardaway signature in 2013.
