Revive Customs‘ restored sole-swap productions haven’t disappointed yet because his creativity and craftsmanship combines for such an original point of view on customs sneakers. This latest work definitely falls into those categories as he takes one of the most game-changing designs in the Nike Air Raid and adds on the revolutionary 360 Max Air unit for one of the most distinct customs we’ve seen. Nike has done some 360 Max Air hybrid versions in house, but the Air Raid? That’s a level of sneaker appreciation that most won’t understand. Joel Colley and David Trujillo of Laika Studios presented the sneaker community with the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘ParaNorman’ – truly one of the most memorable sneaker releases of all-time. For their outstanding work, Tinker Hatfield and Tiffany Beers presented both Colley and Trujillo a special edition of the Nike Air Raid in ParaNorman fashion as a reward for the design (which raised over $200,000 for the Born This Way Foundation). Colley and Trujillo originally selected the Nike Air Raid to represent ParaNorman, but in the end the Foamposite was the final model of choice (not that anyone’s complaining). This incredible limited edition version of the Air Raid is set off with autographs by Tinker and Tiffany, making these even more incredible than what they already are! Nike Basketball continues its march toward the London Olympics and the Dream Team 20th anniversary with another look at a classic design that changed the game. That the Nike Air Raid is the third such entrant from 1992 is an indication of how prolific the Swoosh and particularly designer Tinker Hatfield were that year. And just like Hatfield’s Air Flight Huarache became associated with the Michigan Wolverines, his work with longtime associate Mark Smith on the Air Raid’s X-strapped streetball sensibility came about at a time when multiple cultural movements converged to create a perfect storm. $90 million is what it cost for Nike to reel in LeBron James, so before the Air Zoom Generation debuted in late 2003, LeBron wore a diverse collection of sneakers during his first NBA pre-season prior to his regular season debut in Sacramento. The Air Jordan III, Air Jordan IX, Nike Ultramatic, and the Zoom Flight 2K3 are just some of what LeBron rotated during that short period, and it’s quite possible that the Air Raid was part of that group as well. Once the Nike LeBron line debuted with the AZG, there was no looking back to other models, but this PE, which features a similar White/Wine/Gold colorway with the L23 logo stamped on the insoles, would’ve been the perfect shoe for LeBron’s physical style of play – the Raid was in fact meant to be an outdoor streetball sneaker.
