NIKE AIR SAFARI The Nike Air Safari is a Tinker Hatfield designed Nike model that released originally in 1987. The sneaker was one of the first Nike models to extend beyond the world of sport, with Hatfield’s original intent being to create a sort of luxury sneaker. The model features the ‘safari’ print on the front and back ends, a motif that has been used in countless designs since.

It’s been just about three months since our initial preview and now the above pictured Nike Air Safari colorway is approaching its retail release. Cast largely in grey (the mid panel’s not black, after all), including the signature ostrich-inspired toe and heel prints, this new Safari offers both quite a bit of wearability and an aggressive edge. These join the black/purple joints we showed you last week with pre-orders available from Titolo, who note that they’ll be in stores in October, so be sure to check with Sneaker News for updates on US availability.

The OGs have come and gone, the VNTG pairs have arrived at retail and the luxurious ‘Great Britain’ Pack dropped a couple weeks back, so what’s in store for the rest of the Air Safari’s 25th anniversary year? Pictured above is one answer, a new Nike Air Safari in black leather and mesh whose Court Purple tongue and liner and vibrant orange branding have these a green lace away from a Halloween party thrown by Clemson students, somewhere outside of South Carolina. That ‘Tigers Away’ look has an interesting interplay with the Safari’s signature ostrich-inspired print, and you can see these in greater detail below before pre-ordering for an October shipment from Titolo.

What happens when you strip a classic runner down to its sleekest form? In the curious case of the Nike Air Safari Deconstruct, the answer is an iconic style whose signature element is omitted in favor of an all-suede build that’s up there with some of the best recent Air Max 1s in terms of pure wearability. Take for example this new release in the appropriately named Sandtrap, a soft brown you’re likely to get ‘stuck’ wearing once you realize just how versatile of a style just arrived at Nike Sportswear dealers like Oneness.

Two all-leather ‘Great Britain’ edition Air Safaris arrived over the weekend in conjunction with the opening ceremonies in London, and today we have another reason to celebrate this Tinker Hatfield design’s 25th birthday. The Nike Air Safari Deconstruct strips this classic runner down to its essence, opting for a perforated outline instead of sewn-on Swooshes, along with subtle embossing on the unlined suede tongue. This black and Team Brown combo offers a simple style for the fall season with no trace of the silo’s namesake signature print, and you can see more below before grabbing a pair at Nike Sportswear stores like Oneness.

The Air Safari push continues with a set of premium-grade London-specific colorways featuring two awesome details not seen on Safari releases prior – a set of Safari laces, and a leather press-molded graphic on the insole. We first showed you this great Pack earlier this month, and although those not native to the UK will feel a bit envious of the Summer-long special treatment due to the Olympic festivities, the opportunity to cop a pair will still be there as Hanon reports a release date for this Friday, July 27th, when the 2012 Olympic Games officially commence. It is likely that other select retailers stocking the Air Safari ‘Great Britain’ Pack will release on Friday as well, so keep an ear to the ground if you’re out there.

The Nike Air Safari continues to overshadow big brother Air Max 1 in their shared 25th anniversary summer, this latest pair managing another connection to Nike Sportswear’s 2012 lineup via 1990. This black, Anthracite and red Air Safari LE is built with the kind of traditional construction you’d expect from a member of the class of ’87, but thanks to the palette and blocking pattern, these bear a certain resemblance to the most recent Air Max 90 Hyperfuse Premiums we’ve previewed. NSW has made sure you can go old school or new wave with your bred classic runners this summer; will you pick this new Air Safari for August now that it’s available for pre-order at End?

Nike Sportswear is pulling out all the stops for this year’s Air Safari retro, outfitting the ’87 all star with just about every possible deviation available in their catalog. Lunar, VNTG, and NIKE iD are all out there already, joined now by the Nike Air Safari Deconstruct, a stripped down approach that has found a home on other hallmarks like the Nike Air Force 1 and Nike Dunk High recently. The Swoosh is bumped down to a mere peforation and even the color scheme reflects the deconstructed notion, a stoic black and white that allows only for a bit of brown around the edges. Stay with us after the jump for all the angles and pick up the Nike Air Safari Deconstruct on pre-order now from Titolo.
