NIKE AIR SAFARI The Nike Air Safari is a Tinker Hatfield designed Nike model that released originally in 1987. The sneaker was one of the first Nike models to extend beyond the world of sport, with Hatfield’s original intent being to create a sort of luxury sneaker. The model features the ‘safari’ print on the front and back ends, a motif that has been used in countless designs since.

Nike Air Safari LE – Black – Grey – Red

We got a glimpse of what Nike Sportswear could do at the peak of Safari frenzy back in 2008, but that was only a taste of what’s to come in the Air Safari’s 25th anniversary. Arguably the most stylish of Tinker Hatfield’s 1987 ‘Air Pack’, the Nike Air Safari is about to touch down in a huge way with new VNTG drops, the new Lunar Safari+ update, that impressive Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ and some brand new colorways like the one pictured above. Their Air Jordan III-leaning appearance reminds us that Tinker’s ’87 was very much like Michael’s ’87-88: both produced output with numbers beyond an entire generation’s loftiest goals and though their best was still to come, many purists still look at that late ’80s period as a definitive peak (and don’t even get us started on how far Hatfield was ahead of the curve with his use of greys for balance). This pair is labeled as a sample with no definitive release date; would you grab a pair if they hit retailers along with the rest of the 25th anniversary Air Safaris? Photos: Passover

Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Safari to have that lifestyle duality, and the upcoming VNTG Pack proves that 25 years later, that notion still stays strong. Here’s a complete look at four upcoming colorways of the Nike Air Safari VNTG; introducing a tasteful palette of colors like Work Blue and Thunder Blue while impeccably combining tones like Bamboo and Team Red, the NSW team behind the Safari and this Pack in particular deserves some credit for reinvigorating the sneaker while keeping the ’87 heritage at heart. A look at the four upcoming releases is just ahead, so take a look and stay tuned for more updates on this Lifestyle-friendly set of releases. Photos: overkillshop

Nike Air Safari Pack – Euro Release Date

May 14th, 2012 by | 4 comments

nike air safari qs euro release date 1 Nike Air Safari Pack Euro Release Date

June is poised to be one of the greatest months of the year for sneaker releases with a set-list consisting of the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Miami Vice’, the Air Jordan XII ‘Obsidian’, and the yet-t0-be-postponed Air Yeezy 2, but give some credit to the Air Safari Pack, which is set for a release very soon. Part of the pack is a true Retro of the Air Safari 1 (minus the leather lined interior – the OG has a plush material) and the Air Trainer 1 in a Safari-precision concept. While a concrete date hasn’t been set for the U.S. just yet (although we did give you the heads up on a May/June release), the Nike Air Safari Pack has a release date set for retailers in Europe like Size?, currently scheduled at June 15th, so keep that circled on your calendar if that information applies to you and stay tuned for more solid dates regarding a stateside release.

nike lunar safari anthracite volt 1 Nike Lunar Safari+ Anthracite Volt

Not that there’s anything wrong with the Lunar look on this Tinker Hatfield classic, but we can imagine that if we weren’t also being treated to the OG version of the Nike Air Safari this year, then the Nike Lunar Safari+ shown here might not be treated with such open arms. Fortunately, the Beaverton team is double dipping, with the newer end of the spectrum ending up with quite an eye-popping combo this time around thanks to the heavy volt treatment. Click through to check out the full shots of the sneakers and let us know in the comments if you’ve got plans to pick up the Nike Lunar Safari+, the Nike Air Safari, or both in 2012.  Photos: Burner

The 25th anniversary of the Nike Air Safari just keeps getting better and better. The combo pack that pairs up the original silhouette as well as the Nike Air Trainer 1 with the beloved blocking is looking right, a NIKE iD treatment is on the way, and plenty more inline colorways will fill the gaps. The one we’ve got a look at here first popped up in our preview from last year, donning a seriously earthy look that tones down the contrast just a little bit on the signature safari sectioning. Stay with us after the jump for the full look and let us know which entry into the Nike Air Safari revival you’re most excited for. Photos: SP

Nike Air Safari Pack

nike air safari pack Nike Air Safari Pack

It all started on a couch in New York City.  That’s where Tinker Hatfield first saw the luxurious ostrich leather that inspired him to create Safari print, one of the more enduring aesthetic contributions from his epic 1987 ‘Air Pack’.  2012 marks that fab five’s 25th anniversary and it looks like we’ll be getting quite a few spotted tributes as the Nike Air Safari celebrates a quarter-century of success.  Joining it with the traditional black/grey/orange motif is the Air Trainer 1 from whom we’ve seen a ‘Chlorophyll’ preview this year, yet this one seems like just the tip of the iceberg for what might be in store.  Examine both pairs in detail below, let us know whether you’d pick the OG Air Safari over the Safari’d Air Trainer 1 and stick with Sneaker News for release info.  via Sneaker Freaker

Nike Air Safari Coming to NIKEiD

nike air safari id 1 Nike Air Safari Coming to NIKEiD

Nike Sportswear had several major anniversaries to celebrate in 2012, so they started with the most senior and the Air Force 1′s 30th got all the attention early.  The Uptown movement is still strong as we move into the warmer months, but just as more folks will be outside enjoying the weather, it’s natural to shift toward running and training designs.  The Air Max 1 has initiated a little push of its own in commemoration of 25 years, but it’s another 1987-born runner that’s arguably stealing the show by joining forces with a variety of other models.  Its namesake print appeared on the Air Force 1 iD, just reminded us that this is also the Air Trainer 1′s quarter-century milestone and now the Nike Air Safari is ready for its own run on NIKEiD.  The Swoosh online customization Safari has a $135 admission fee but the details are still somewhat mysterious, so click through for more, let us know what kinds of looks you have in mind and stick with Sneaker News for more details.
