It’s time to get a little wild with your kicks because tomorrow, the sneaker game goes on Safari with the release of the two keynote Nike Retros ordained with the iconic graphic print. Tinker Hatfield was inspired by a couch he spotted in a high-end furniture shop, and from there, he created the original Air Safari as one of the first performance/lifestyle sneakers ever, and in 2012, Nike Sportswear did us a huge favor by re-releasing the OG as well as it’s fellow class of ’87 graduate Air Trainer 1 in the familiar print. Nikestore jumped the gun and dropped these a week ago, but the June 30th release date is still on schedule at a number of Nike Sportswear retailers, so don’t miss out on one of the best Nike Retro releases of the year by snagging them tomorrow from WEST or on eBay.

Nike Air Safari LE – Mesh Pack

nike air safari le mesh pack Nike Air Safari LE Mesh Pack

This Saturday marks the release of Nike Sportswear’s ‘Safari Pack’, a look into the past that gives us the OG Air Safari as well as that familiar look on fellow class of 1987 alum Air Trainer 1.  In much the same way that the Air Trainer 1 takes on the Air Safari’s signature look, these new Nike Air Safari LE releases deviate from the original formula by a single degree.  The yellow-accented pair looks almost like a faded take on the OG orange, and its use of mesh instead of the traditional leather toebox provides another space into which the blue-accented edition finds its niche.  Check these out in greater detail after the jump, let us know how they compare to the design that established Tinker Hatfield’s famed tribute to ostrich leather and find your pair at NSW stockists soon.  via SM

Nike Air Safari Deconstruct

nike air safari deconstruct pack Nike Air Safari Deconstruct

Ever since the first pair of Air Ralson Lites dropped last summer, Nike Sportswear has been continually increasing the breadth of its ‘deconstructed’ silhouettes.  First came the Dunk and Air Force 1 previews and more recently the Blazer, but it was a runner in the Air Pegasus ’92 Decon that beat all of those to retail.  Following up on that thread we’ve seen spun through the Lunar Flow PRM and Free 5.0 is the Nike Air Safari Deconstruct in a couple of suede builds that come off as similar to the VNTG pack releases on which we’re also waiting.  Black and grey pairs with burgundy ankle collars await your click on the jump below; let us know which one you like best with a comment and be sure to check back with Sneaker News for release info. via HS

Nike Air Safari LE – Black – Grey – Red

June 2nd, 2012 by | 6 comments

nike air max safari le black grey red Nike Air Safari LE Black Grey Red

We got a glimpse of what Nike Sportswear could do at the peak of Safari frenzy back in 2008, but that was only a taste of what’s to come in the Air Safari’s 25th anniversary. Arguably the most stylish of Tinker Hatfield’s 1987 ‘Air Pack’, the Nike Air Safari is about to touch down in a huge way with new VNTG drops, the new Lunar Safari+ update, that impressive Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ and some brand new colorways like the one pictured above. Their Air Jordan III-leaning appearance reminds us that Tinker’s ’87 was very much like Michael’s ’87-88: both produced output with numbers beyond an entire generation’s loftiest goals and though their best was still to come, many purists still look at that late ’80s period as a definitive peak (and don’t even get us started on how far Hatfield was ahead of the curve with his use of greys for balance). This pair is labeled as a sample with no definitive release date; would you grab a pair if they hit retailers along with the rest of the 25th anniversary Air Safaris? Photos: Passover
