At first glance this may look like another Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011, but take a closer look at the heel package and you’ll notice a shocking revelation. It’s been a while since we’ve seen shox on the NBA court, but they are poised to make a comeback via the Nike Air Shox Hyperballer. This new sneaker benefits from the patented featherlight feel of Fuse, with the added bonus of the shox absorption system. There’s been no shortage of hot colorways either, with this latest coming in a steely grey paired with a chilling shade of blue. Take a full look after the jump and grab them now at Finishline.

We’ve seen plenty of cases where sneaker releases are slightly different than their initial preview images, but this phenomenon seems uniquely correlated with the use of Nike Hyperfuse construction. Perhaps it’s the heat bonding process that can allow various gradients, that serves as the catalyst to the kind of swapping we saw with the first Air Max 1 Hyperfuses — the ability to change a shoe drastically by swapping out one layer would make any designer grin when imagining the possibilities. And that’s exactly what’s happened with the black and Photo Blue Nike Air Shox Hyperballer, a model we saw about a month ago in a decidedly bluer getup. In this final version, there’s quite a bit more black and no extension of the blue tonality, which leaves you with a much starker aesthetic. Nike Air + Nike Shox = Nike Air Shox. It’s a simple formula that seems to work just fine, as it was introduced first on a few Nike Runners last year, like the Nike Shox NZ 2.0 that released as part of the Air Attack Pack. Now Air Shox is used for Nike Shox’s long-awaited mainstream return to Nike Basketball, and this July 2011 will be like the early 00′s all over again, when Nike Shox basketball kicks were considered ‘rockable’ thanks to the Shox VC line and other classics like the Shox BB4 and Shox Stunner, among others. Three new colorways of the Nike Air Shox Hyperballer will drop next month – the previously previewed Wolf Grey/Sport Red, a Black/Photo Blue, and a White/Sport Red-Black. More images below, so take a peek and watch for these to hit Nike Basketball retailers next month.

Built on the Hyperfuse composite material that was near the top of the list for most popular choices this past season, the Nike Air Shox Hyperballer is poised to bring the ‘Boing!’ back to basketball. Will this upcoming Wolf Grey, white and Sport Red colorway become this decade’s ‘Lapis’ Shox BB4? It certainly has a distinct look, even in a period when simple team-oriented colorways are dominating the market, and with at least one world champion in Shawn Marion already rocking this model, you know they can handle the pressure of the world’s biggest stage. Could we be seeing our first glimpse into Shawn Marion’s footwear choices for next season? Having just seen The Matrix’ Nike Air Shox Hyperballer PE from the NBA Finals, we can’t help but think that this tonal blue getup with black accents would make a perfect road shoe to match the Mavericks’ uniforms. But these are definitely not a player exclusive release, their black and Photo Blue design something you can expect to find more widely at Nike Basketball retailers when they hit store shelves later this year. It’s not as sensationalistic as some of the threads that dominated sports media over the last week-plus, but several Dallas Mavericks finally reaching the professional peak might be the best one. Dirk Nowitzki has gone from ‘just’ a Hall of Famer to a top-25 (top 10?) guy, Jason Kidd’s sustained brilliance will now be viewed through a more favorable lens and Jason Terry can now be mentioned alongside the great championship role players. And as brilliant as those three were, they owe a big piece of their championship rings (or bracelets, or whatever) to Shawn Marion. The Matrix also saw his career stock surge beyond the naysayers, his impressive performance in defending LeBron James while wearing the Nike Air Shox Hyperballer a key part of the Mavs comeback Finals win. Click on the jump below to see more angles of this Air Shox Hyperballer and stick with Sneaker News for another season full of Nike Basketball player exclusive sneakers.
