Nike keeps turning the clock back further and further with their retro releases, with 2012 seeming particularly heavy on the vintage looks. The Nike Pre Montreal Racer might be as far back as they go for this year, but the Nike Air Tailwind reaches pretty deep into Swoosh history as well, a sneaker that first hit the market back in ’79. To celebrate the re-release, Berlin’s Firmament put together this snazzy installation, aiming to capture the historical important of the first shoe to feature Nike Air technology. The moon landing comparison is a fitting one, echoing a moment when Nike planted their flag on the sneaker world in what was certainly one giant leap for footwear. In the world of retro runners, there’s no doubt that Nike’s Air Max line rules the roost. If you are looking to take even further back though, check out this upcoming pack featuring a triple threat of the waffle bottomed classic Nike Air Tailwind. There have been a handful of newer iterations bearing the Tailwind moniker, but this one takes it back to the OG running model that had athletes laced up long before Tinker thought up the air bubble. The material selection doesn’t try to get fancy here, repping the classic trainer look of suede and nylon, with a little leather thrown in on the Swoosh. Get a full look at all three pairs after the jump and grab them from mita ahead of their US release date.
