nike air tech challenge 2 australian open summary Nike Air Tech Challenge II Australian Open Available at 21 Mercer

The Nike Air Tech Challenge II “Australian Open” is available at Nike Sportswear’s 21 Mercer flagship store right now. Their arrival in NYC is a bit of a surprise considering that the “Wimbledon” pair from last year never made it stateside (Of course the US Open one did but that made a little more sense). The sneaker features the classic ATC II build along with some number detailing that references Agassi’s various triumphs at the tournament in question. Get another peek after the break and remember that if you miss them at Mercer you can always see what’s available on eBay.

Did you pick up the Nike Air Tech Challenge II in the “Hot Lava” colorway this weekend? If you got caught sleeping on that particular pair fear not-as there are more styles to come in 2014 as far as Agassis go. Also on its way is this pair, which wears the all-important splatter graphic along with a color combo of white, teal, and neon. As an asterisk on the release, it looks like these have a different style code in Nike’s system than the aforementioned Lavas, so it’s possible that distribution will be a bit wider. Continue reading for the full peek and tell us in the comments if you’re looking forward to purchasing these ATC 2s upon their release.

nike air tech challenge ii cultural history Irreverence Justified: The Cultural History of the Nike Air Tech Challenge II

The BBC described Andre Agassi as “perhaps the biggest worldwide star in [tennis] history,” upon his retirement in 2006. That trusted British media outlet could have removed the ‘perhaps’ and it would have ruffled fewer feathers than Agassi’s rebellious image did, flying in the face of tennis traditions. Andre’s impact extends beyond the game whose once rigid dress code he all but destroyed, into one of the defining looks of that golden age of the late ’80s/early ’90s.
