You’d think that if any Queensbridge rapper was to suit up in a ‘Safari’ sneaker then Jungle would be the go-to guy based off name alone, but as it turns out not too many people are showing up for Bravehearts shows these days so we may never get a glimpse of that. Nas is instead the dude to do them justice, popping up at the Heineken Red Star Access Chicago event with the Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ on feet. Click through with us to check out all the photos of Nas rocking this recent NRG release and let us know in the comments below if you think Nike Air Trainer 1′s on his feet make his cypher complete.

Among the chief reasons that Beaverton is synonymous with the world’s best sneakers is another famed Oregon ‘B’ who shared serious ties with the Ducks family. Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman came back to his alma mater after a tour of duty with the US Army in WWII, led the ‘Track Men of Oregon’ to an incredible stretch of success in the 1960s, then set his waffle iron to ‘world domination’ and pushed the Swoosh to the top before passing on the eve of the new millennium. Bowerman will always remain a part of Nike’s bedrock, and two luxurious new takes on one of their superstar designers’ game-changers will soon release in tribute to his contributions. The Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘BB51′ remembers Bowerman’s Ducks football days and takes things upscale with a premium black leather build joined by another in caramel nubuck that you’ll in some new photos later. Click through for more photos of the black ‘BB51′ Air Trainer 1s and stick with Sneaker News for US release info.

After taking a close look at the black beauty from Nike Sportswear’s luxurious tribute to co-founder Bill Bowerman, here we examine that same premium quality in different materials and colors. The Nike Air Trainer 1 Premium ‘BB51′ is equally impressive with its khaki/black distribution switched, this nubuck pair adding a rugged dimension by way of its tangential connections to the iconic ‘wheat’ Timberland look. They symbolize Bowerman’s constructive influence on a brand that built on his success coaching the Oregon Ducks track team, and imagine him at the very heart of the brand by swapping out the heel logo for a varsity-styled ‘BB51′ script. Have a closer look after the jump, let us know which ‘BB51′ Air Trainer 1s you like best and stick with Sneaker News for word on the US release.

Nike Basketball’s ’20 Years’ retrospective clued us in on the Nike co-founder’s impact during Eric Avar’s design for the Air Hyperflight, and now here’s another way of examining “What would Bill Bowerman do?” The Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘BB51′ pack brings together two of Tinker Hatfield’s game-changing cross-trainers with premium leathers in elegant colors to celebrate a man without whom you wouldn’t be reading these words. ’BB51′ on the heels connects back to Bowerman’s Oregon roots with a reference to his classic UO Ducks football uniform number while the outrigger area’s diagonal striping evokes images of the ‘Vintage Box’ and all its past glories. An impressive ode to one of this industry’s giants, the ‘BB51′ Air Trainer 1s are going on sale at Tier Zero retailers in Asia like Kasina on Saturday, August 4th, so check back with Sneaker News for US release info and check out some new images in the meantime.

Nike Sportswear pays homage to Bill Bowerman, the man who ignited the greatest sports outfitting movement in the world, with the Air Trainer 1 ‘BB51′; these two Air Trainer 1 colorways are of the Premium NRG grade as they feature top-notch leather and suede materials with a woven tongue and gold underlays on the Swoosh. Additional details seen on both high-class renditions of the Air Trainer 1 are bold, diagonal striping on the outrigger of the fore-foot strap, the ‘BB51′ lettering on the heel, leather/suede fore-foot straps, and solid black rubber outsoles. The ‘BB51′ lettering on the heel signifies Bowerman’s initials as well as his football jersey uniform from when he played football for the University of Oregon nearly one century ago. NIKE AIR TRAINER 1 WEEK
Our final Air Trainer 1 featured of the week focuses on a set made exclusively for the European, Canadian, and Asian market – the Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Shima Shima’ Pack of 2003. In fact, many Air Trainer 1s were exclusive to European retailers, and the ‘Shima Shima’ Pack (which also included three Dunk High colorways and two Air Max 1 colorways) was certainly one of the more notable of the bunch; the two primary colorways is the White/Blue/Grey version, recognized as ‘Shima 1′ and the Brown/Hay version, recognized as Shima 2, but a third ‘Shima 3′ colorway was released for the Nike Dunk High only (light blue/yellow). Each set of ‘Shima’ releases were released simultaneously (obviously beginning with the 1), but what tied all three capsules together was the unique pinstriping on the interior lining of the shoe. The term ‘Shima’ is one of the more cryptic of nicknames in Nike footwear history considering this clearly Japanese-derived concept was at one point released outside of the country of origin, but the respect for the Shima Pack is certainly validated for its great colorways and awesome materials. This concludes the first wave of Air Trainer 1 throwbacks, so check out the gallery below and stay tuned for a fresh new crop of kicks next week in Classics Revisited!

NIKE AIR TRAINER 1 WEEK
On Tuesday, Sneaker News featured the Nike Air Trainer 1 SB ‘Gold Digger’ as part of the Nike Air Trainer 1′s residence in Classics Revisited for the week. The HUF-bred design might be the most notable Nike Air Trainer 1 SB of the small bunch, but the original deserves as much attention, does it not? Here’s a look at the 2003 release of the Nike Air Trainer 1 SB in Black/Obsidian-Taupe-Paul Brown; it is indeed the first ever Nike Air Trainer 1 output from the Nike Skateboarding label, but like much of the Nike SB releases of that series, the Air Trainer 1 SB ‘Paul Brown’ did not feature any ‘SB’ designation, with the exception of the silver box. The ‘Paul Brown’ moniker comes straight from the official colorway of the shoe, as a few other footwear releases have also been dubbed with that familiar color scheme. More of the first-ever Nike Air Trainer 1 SB is right ahead, so check out the gallery and let us know if these ring any past memories from your early Nike SB hoarding days!

NIKE AIR TRAINER 1 WEEK
Our Hump Day feature for Classics Revisited intertwines this week’s topic of the Nike Air Trainer 1 to one of the more memorable Packs put together by Nike during the early 2000′s. Nike introduced the ‘Twisted Prep’ Pack consisting of a team of the Nike Air Trainer 1, Nike Dunk Low, and Nike Blazer Mid. The Pack contained two “preppy” compositions consisting of grey/green/pink and light grey/mahogany – your run-of-the-mill colorways seen on private boarding school uniforms and country clubs around the world, but what really gave these Twisted Prep Pack its character was the argyle-print insoles in each of the shoes. Currently, the Nike Air Trainer 1 “Twisted Prep” is an oft-searched item among the Air Trainer 1 faithful, but as most of the early-2000 AT1s, finding a deadstock pair is a tough task! Check out both colorways from the Twisted Prep pack below and stay tuned for more goodies as we near the end of the week.
