NIKE AIR TRAINER 1 WEEK

When Nike Skateboarding first started in 2002, the only available models were there SB Dunk and the newly designed SB URL. Today, the SB line-up boasts a number of pro-model signature shoes bearing the names of Paul Rodriguez, Eric Koston, Stefan Janoski, and Omar Salazar, and during its eleven-year run, SB has experienced all the ups and downs of adding some major names to its team of riders while reveling in the SB Dunk mass hysteria. With so many major headlines running through Skateboarding in that span, we often forget about the short-lived models that had the tough task of hanging with the big-boy Dunks; the ‘skate-ready’ version of the Nike Air Trainer 1 is one of those sneakers that more often that not leave you befuddled as to how you forgot about it in the first place, so we’re taking the time to highlight the most notable of the Air Trainer 1 SB bunch – the ‘Gold Diggers’ of 2005.

After the Air Trainer 1 SB debuted in 2003 with Black/Paul Brown colorway, San Francisco-based HUF got the opportunity to work on the Air Trainer 1 after a completing a major hit with the SB Dunk High. The historic San Francisco Gold Rush is solely responsible for transforming the small settlement into a bustling boomtown during the mid-1800′s, so HUF revisited that era in Bay Area history by using the earthy colorway accentuated by the rich brown leather upper and the speckled midsole, and finished it off with the pick-axe and shovel logo with the city’s initials on the heel. After the release of the ‘Gold Diggers’, the Air Trainer 1 SB didn’t see much light of day and finally bowed out after 2007′s ‘Horror Pack’ (making way for the Air Trainer II SB). More of this classic Air Trainer 1 below, so check out the gallery below and stay tuned for more AT1 goodies tomorrow in Classics Revisited!

Classics Revisited: Nike Air Trainer 1 “Python” (2003)

classics nike air trainer 1 python Classics Revisited: Nike Air Trainer 1 Python (2003)

NIKE AIR TRAINER 1 WEEK

With the Nike Air Trainer 1 making a feverish comeback thanks to the ‘Safari’ release a few weeks back, it’s time to check out five noteworthy Air Trainer 1s in history before it makes a big-time return later this year. Some historical data: the Air Trainer 1 was Nike’s first Training shoe and served as the starting point for the widespread Cross-Training movement that spanned nearly a decade. It was during that span that Nike served up some delicious Trainer goodies worn by the world’s greatest athletes, from the loud-mouthed Jon McEnroe to the do-it-all Bo Jackson. Of course, the original ‘Chlorophyll’ has already established itself as a ‘Hall of Fame’ sneaker, so we’re letting that one ride high in order to give these five Air Trainer 1 bangers some airtime here in Classics Revisited – starting with the 2003 release of the Air Trainer 1 ‘Python’.

With 25 years in existence under its belt, there are countless colorways that deserve to be noted. The AT1, however, didn’t see much in terms of artist or store collaborations, but still managed to please Air Trainer 1 fans with what might the most consistently impressive library of colorways. One of the more off-the-wall make-ups was 2003′s Python, which used a dark shade of the reptilian skin to build the upper. The remainder of the shoe would feature leather in white and dark grey shades, completing one of the most memorable Air Trainer 1s in history inspired by one of the more forgotten 80′s classics – the Nike Air Python of 1987 (released in the same year as the Air Trainer 1). Alongside the Trainer version was an Air Max 90 release finished in similar manner (and equally as beloved). Perhaps Nike Sportswear will get a bit creative with the looming 2012 releases? We’ll have to wait and see, so sit back and enjoy the Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Python’ below and let us know if you’ve got these in your collection.

Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ – Available on eBay

Nike describes the Air Yeezy 2 design as a result of a cross-inspiration from classic Trainers and exotic materials. The same could be said for the Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’, no? In fact, the Air Trainer 1 is the original Trainer, and Safari is certainly one of the earliest and most exotic materials ever utilized by Nike, so the Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ follows the same blueprint as the Air Yeezy 2. The Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ might just be the best ‘Retro’ sneaker of the year because it’s almost like a two-in-one, so there’s good reason why a select number of sneakerheads are zeroed in on these over the other big-ticket June items. If these trump all other June releases for you, cop ‘em in advance of the established U.S. release date right now from reneussance on eBay.

Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ – Detailed Images

It’s hard to predict the results when two worlds collide. We’ve seen Nike put out some interesting hybrids and combinations that seem to make sense in theory or on paper, but none has made more sense than the Nike Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’, slated to release at select Nike Sportswear retailers next month. It combines two of Nike’s most time-honored classics born in what might be one of the greatest years of Nike (1987), using the Air Trainer 1 as the body and the Air Safari as the flair with the signature colorway blocked perfectly on the upper. The Air Trainer 1 ‘Safari’ has been one of the most trending units here on Sneaker News and should be a hit with fans of old-school Nike – but how will it fare with the newer crowd that has experienced far more exposure to Nike Basketball, Jordans, and Foamposites? Nike Air Safari Pack – Euro Release Date

May 14th, 2012 by | 4 comments

nike air safari qs euro release date 1 Nike Air Safari Pack Euro Release Date

June is poised to be one of the greatest months of the year for sneaker releases with a set-list consisting of the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Miami Vice’, the Air Jordan XII ‘Obsidian’, and the yet-t0-be-postponed Air Yeezy 2, but give some credit to the Air Safari Pack, which is set for a release very soon. Part of the pack is a true Retro of the Air Safari 1 (minus the leather lined interior – the OG has a plush material) and the Air Trainer 1 in a Safari-precision concept. While a concrete date hasn’t been set for the U.S. just yet (although we did give you the heads up on a May/June release), the Nike Air Safari Pack has a release date set for retailers in Europe like Size?, currently scheduled at June 15th, so keep that circled on your calendar if that information applies to you and stay tuned for more solid dates regarding a stateside release.

Nike Air Safari Pack

May 4th, 2012 by | 21 comments

nike air safari pack Nike Air Safari Pack

It all started on a couch in New York City.  That’s where Tinker Hatfield first saw the luxurious ostrich leather that inspired him to create Safari print, one of the more enduring aesthetic contributions from his epic 1987 ‘Air Pack’.  2012 marks that fab five’s 25th anniversary and it looks like we’ll be getting quite a few spotted tributes as the Nike Air Safari celebrates a quarter-century of success.  Joining it with the traditional black/grey/orange motif is the Air Trainer 1 from whom we’ve seen a ‘Chlorophyll’ preview this year, yet this one seems like just the tip of the iceberg for what might be in store.  Examine both pairs in detail below, let us know whether you’d pick the OG Air Safari over the Safari’d Air Trainer 1 and stick with Sneaker News for release info.  via Sneaker Freaker
