Remember last year when the Nike Air Foamposite One “Galaxy” magically restocked at Nike’s 21 Mercer spot in NYC well after the release chaos played out? It looks like the same is happening this year with the Nike Foamposite piece from the 2013 All-Star lineup-the Nike Barkley Posite Max “Area 72″. This will be an in-store only affair, so if you’re planning to purchase you’ve gotta hoof it to Soho tomorrow, April 5th. Mark your calender for the Nike Barkley Posite Max “Area 72″ restock and remember that you can always see what’s available on eBay.

No pun intended, but this year’s All-Star focused Foamposite release had big shoes to fill. Last year’s Galaxy, might we add, is considered by some to be the best sneaker of 2012 (it made #2 in our own personal list), but Nike threw us a curveball and made the newly designed Barkley Posite Max the centerpiece of the All-Star Pack of ‘Area 72′ footwear. At $250, the shoes are more expensive than last year’s Galaxy Foams, so is there any chance these won’t sell out as quickly? Check out the new images below and be sure to cop tomorrow at select NSW retailers, or get ‘em now from hubble_bubbler on eBay.

One year ago from around this time of year, Nike Basketball broke new ground and redefined the ‘Pack’, stretching the limits of sneaker colorways and details in the process. Of course, we’re referring to the ‘Galaxy’ Pack, which included the three signature Nike Basketball models, the outrageously popular Air Foamposite One, the rekindled fire of the Air Flight One, and several Nike Sportswear models. The bold colorways, glow-in-the-dark detailing, and ‘galaxy’ backdrop ignored the traditions of Blue (East) and Red (West) while setting a new and perhaps impossible-to-meet standard of All-Star kicks, and after the excitement around 2012′s ‘Galaxy’ Pack started to die down, all eyes were focused on what Nike had in store for 2013.
Luckily for us, the 2013 All-Star Game would take place in Houston, a city also well known for its connection to space exploration; Nike recently unveiled the entire 2013 All-Star Pack inspired by the fictional ‘AREA 72′, which produced another vivid set of color compositions for the trio of Nike Basketball signatures while introducing the highly anticipated Barkley Posite Max and the oft-retroed Air Force Max. There’s no doubt the upcoming releases would have us muttering “Houston, we have a problem”, so before the release goes down for good, let’s hear your opinion on the Area 72 vs. Galaxy matter. Does the 2013 Collection live up to the Galaxy standard, or does it perhaps fall short or go beyond what was expected? Vote in our polls below and let’s hear the true verdict on the case of Area 72 vs. Galaxy.

Which pair from the Nike Sportswear ‘Area 72′ collection are you gunning for? The set runs five sneakers deep, with each release in the group outfitted with a spacy theme and little bit of ‘Raygun’ flavor. On display here are the Nike Lunar Force 1 ‘Area 72′, the Nike Vandal High ‘Area 72′, and the Nike Barkley Posite Max ‘Area’ 72′ all displayed in a rather appropriate Roswell type setting. Get these three after the jump and watch for the whole collection to drop during the 2013 NBA All-Star weekend. And keep in mind that Social Status is only reporting stock of these three pairs at the moment, so the five separate styles might be split up across separate retailers across the land.

February is always an insane month for sneaker releases, and there’s no doubt this upcoming All-Star release of the Nike Barkley Posite Max is at the epicenter of all the craze. As a follow up to last year’s Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’, the folks at NSW came together to create the ‘Area 72′ Collection inspired by the Rayguns, using the all-new Barkley Posite Max as the vessel to carry the Earthlings to the outer-space stylings of this year’s All-Star footwear. While there certainly is no shortage of visual punch, the question remains: Is this a worthy follow-up to the Galaxy Foamposite? Check out this detailed gallery that now reveals a Barkley-inspired pull-tab with his birthplace of Leeds, Alabama, and if you want to cop ahead of schedule, see what’s available now from yellownsxt on eBay.
