NIKE BLAZER HIGH The Nike Blazer High is one of Nike’s oldest designs, and one of their first basketball sneakers after making the transition from offering strictly runners. The sneaker debuted in 1972 and was worn perhaps most famously by George Gervin. The Nike Blazer High is a frequent Retro model as well, having countless releases under the Nike Sportswear and Nike SB lines in current times.

The bar was set incredibly high (so high it reached outer space) with last year’s Nike Basketball’s 2012 All-Star Pack, but aside from the trio of Basketball signatures, NSW models like the Dunk, Air Foamposite One, and Air Flight One were given a massive boost as well. Much is in anticipation regarding the 2013 set of NSW releases, and today we’re getting a first look at what’s in store; the Nike Barkley Posite Max, Air Force Max, Blazer Mid, Vandal High, and Lunar Force 1 Low are the included pieces of this year’s Nike Sportswear 2013 All-Star Collection, with the tie-in to Houston’s NASA Space Center offering up another reason to go beyond the Earth’s atmosphere once again.
Nike continues the story that began with last year’s ‘Big Bang’ by notifying us of a transmission that has been received at Area 72 – a top secret facility located in the desert in Houston and inspired by Nike’s year of birth – and what is revealed is indeed the Nike Sportwear All-Star Collection designed with galaxy themes, glow-in-the-dark highlights, and reflective panels for a truly magnificent feel. Raygun, the iconic Nike Basketball character that debuted a decade ago, returns as the lead in this Pack, with its logo present on the tongue of each shoe. Continue reading for a first look at this amazing set and stay tuned for a release of the 2013 All-Star Pack by Nike Sportswear beginning this February 14th.

A simple thought experiment to gauge either your longterm memory, sneakerhead experience, changes in Lunar New Year sneaker output or some of each: how would you compare the Year of the Dragon to the Year of the Ox? Only three years separate them on the Chinese zodiac, but Nike’s gradual expansion has followed by other brands and now in 2012 with snake such a natural footwear expression, we’re reaching a new peak. A classic silhouette we’d seen in Tiger and Ox form but was conspicuously silent during the Rabbit and Dragon years, the Nike Blazer High has another scaled edition on the way for 2013. Adding to the snake Swooshed VNTG 77s on the way, this YOTS Blazer High has a Toronto Raptors lean, but makes its intentions clear with a distinctive heel badge in place of the traditional un-italicized OG logo. Let us know where these rank amongst the still growing catalog of serpentine ’13s and stick with Sneaker News for US release info.

If you’re looking for a hidden jewel this holiday season, this ain’t it. But it will be a happy occasion if you give (to yourself, even) the gift of this new ‘Leather Pack’ Nike Blazer duo from the Swoosh Sportswear division. Each offering its own take on monochromatic brown with a variety of leather textures, these earthy mixes have a crisp edge thanks to Sail laces, soles and Swooshes, but the key branding element on these is the red diamond that takes the place of the traditional fold-over tongue tag. The taller and darker of the two Quickstrikes mixes Light British Tan and Dark Field Brown, and you can see a bunch of new photos from a variety of angles before this Friday’s drop at SNS.

Nike Sportswear’s Vintage Blazer lineup continues to expand its horizons as we see both heights done up with plenty of novel touches. The Nike Blazer High VNTG NRG and its lowtop counterpart both appear here today in a mixture of brown leathers: Light British Tan/Dark Field Brown for the former and Filbert/Henna for the latter. They’ve both got a unique red diamond inset on the tongue in lieu of the traditional woven tag, and convey their vintage charm by way of rough, almost hairy eyestays instead of the typical pre-yellowed soles. Have a closer look below, let us know what you think about NSW refreshing its VNTG catalog and stick with Sneaker News for word on US availability.

Nike Sportswear issued a Cool Grey suede Blazer High earlier in the year, but this steely shade is just too versatile to not pop up again in 2012. The latest Nike Blazer High Suede release has a different tone than that aforementioned spring drop thanks to a pass on the VNTG treatment and Team Red branding instead of white. It’s still undoubtedly an old school look with the fat belly Swoosh and old school varsity colorup, but has a crisp edge that you’ll only find at JD Sports.

Nike Sportswear keeps tinkering with what constitutes both a High and a VNTG when it comes to new Blazer releases, and with this bit of added confusion has come an impressive new variety. From the Mids in the latest VNTG Multicolor collection to the new leather Vintage Highs, we’ve seen the pre-yellowed look on some of the year’s best vulc-soled throwbacks, and now this latest edition returns to what’s been this year’s standard. Featuring a mix of purple and gold plus the ubiquitous Sail sole, tongue and laces, this new Nike Blazer High Suede Vintage is every bit as ready for the upcoming NBA season as either of the two Chicago-style pairs we’ve seen this year. Have a closer look at more photos below and grab these today at NSW retailers like Size?

Fans of Nike Sportswear’s Vintage Blazer series have watched as this once predictable line (suede + Sail all the way) has evolved to incorporate more colors, materials, blocking patterns and even box label nomenclature. But just like the classic silhouette has remained the same for decades (get ready for the 40th anniversary next year!), the Nike Blazer High VNTG is ready to bring back a couple of its more popular leather designs. Black and red-Swooshed Sail Leather editions first arrived at NSW retailers for the Holiday season three years ago, and are reprised here today along with a navy-accented style that just released last year as a Size?-exclusive. All three are in stock now at select retailers like SNKRS and you can see each up close below.

Nike Sportswear’s Blazers are always connected to elements from the past (they are, after all, Nike’s first hightop basketball shoe). This particular release slated for next spring has some extra attachments, because it’s hard to think about a Nike Blazer High with a snakeskin Swoosh and not picture Supreme’s 2006 quilted collabos. These are done in a more pristine form with less aggressive coloring, and along with the unique combination of toe bumper and outrigger strips, is also reminiscent of Stussy’s ’10 All Courts. But thanks to that unorthodox setup and the color combo, these manage an identity beyond the apparent references, and you can judge for yourself if that’s something you’ll add to your rotation next year after clicking to see more below.
