Nike Skateboarding has been very deliberate, only releasing three colorways since their Gino Iannucci-cosigned Challenge Court debuted last summer. The Sportswear division has been similarly restrained, offering only a couple of releases while the suede and ripstop trio slated for November 2012 remains AWOL. We’re interested to find how this impacts the Nike Challenge Court Mid Vintage in three new all-suede editions tagged as ‘UK LTD’. Stick with Sneaker News to see if more retailers get these (they were spotted first at a Japanese NSW distributor) and check out more photos of all three after the jump.

John McEnroe himself appeared in the spot for Gino Iannucci’s Nike SB version, but that doesn’t mean Johnny Mac’s Challenge Courts are only for skating these days. Nike Sportswear’s Challenge Court Mid is a formidable addition to your old school athletic -slash- 21st century lifestyle rotation as timeless styles like these monochromatic suede and ripstop nylon two-tone affairs continue to expand in variety. NSW crafted red, green and black pairs which all feature soft off-white accents and wooly tennis ball ankle collars, and you can see each pair individually below before they arrive at select retailers next month.

As we move forward into the future, Nike continues to spelunk into the depths of its Tennis vault, bringing back a iconic model with each dive. The Challenge Court Mid, a John McEnroe original, was undoubtedly one of the more understated Retros of 2012 as news of a return just a few months back caught the attention of the vintage tennis-shoe seeking constituency, but a Euro-only distribution might’ve been a hurdle too tall to leap over. Americana fashion house J.Crew, which has slowly grown into a surprising source of vintage-based kicks, just stocked the VNTG version of the Challenge Court Mid in the OG White/Navy/Red colorway, so head to the J.Crew online shop now before they disappear.

We’re starting to get a better sense of how the whole thing is shaking out with the Dunk and Blazer lines (among others) sticking with the Nike SB division while their signature lines have been de-SB’d and made available through more channels than ever before. Models like Paul Rodriguez, Eric Koston and Stefan Janoski’s latest all dropped with this in common, and now comes a brand new design that while not featuring a specific rider’s name in its title, has his fingerprints all over its distinct yet familiar design. Longtime Nike SB pro Gino Iannucci contributed to this simulacrum of skate and classic basketball elements, the Nike Challenge Court Mid pictured above with much of its charm borrowed from the classic Court Force hightop. This first colorway furthers the old school vibe with a palette suitable for ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan; will the Challenge Court Mid be on your USA(B)-colored sneaker shopping list this summer now that Titolo is taking pre-orders?
