Add another mark to your tally of Hazelnut brown releases from Nike Sportswear this spring. A color made famous on Todd Bratrud’s ‘Skate Mental’ Dunk High SB in late 2009, it’s a softly organic look that’s far more versatile than the relative lack of releases would suggest, and now we’re seeing several NSW drops this season employ the earthy shade. This new Nike Challenger joins a couple different Blazers and the recently debuted Manor in utilizing this oft overlooked color, but thanks to Calypso blue accents on the tongue and heel, these come off as the ‘coolest’ looking pair of the bunch, just a shade away from Bratrud’s chosen Cerise on the aforementioned SBs. Yet more proof that classic runners were born to excel in suede, this new Challenger is available now at select NSW stockists like Titolo.

With the pre-Air Max range of Nike Sportswear classic runners, you’re looking back on a time prior to the existence or application of technical materials we’ve come to take for granted, so most are built in time tested stuff like leather, suede and nylon. And while suede and mesh is a combo old school-oriented sneakerheads seek in their new selections, it’s somewhat rare to see an item the vintage of the Nike Challenger done entirely in the nappy look. These crank up the lifestyle appeal thanks to the newly unified upper, a navy base that looks great with grey and white accents, all atop a gum brown bottom.
