Nike Sportswear pulls a common thread through summer 2013 Blazer Mid ’77 and vulc-soled Dunk High releases. Not only does the Nike Dunk High AC borrow the Blazer’s belly Swoosh and autoclaved outsole, but this Air Jordan 1-ish colorway also utilizes a multicolor zig-zag pattern on its tongue tag the likes of which you’ll see on some about-to-drop ’77s. The key here is making subtle twists to old favorites to keep them fresh, and it worked as you’ll see in more images below and at NSW retailers like Titolo.

The latest Nike Dunk High AC demonstrates how important color selection can be, even in the context of a single blocking template. This autoclaved Dunk High is done identically to the Air Jordan 1-leaning edition we saw a short while ago, but thanks to the Photo Blue and Khaki combo, these lean closer to the Blazer Mid ’77s with which they share the multicolor zig-zag pattern than MJ (or the potential UNC look from a softer blue). The Nike Dunk High AC returns for 2013 with the first new colorways since November’s multicolor VNTG pack. These are more traditional in their approach to colorblocking but still have a connection to Nike Sportswear’s Vintage Blazer Mid thanks to the use of a zig-zag tongue tag that echoes detailing on at least two forthcoming ’77 Mids. This pair also has a kind of bizarro Air Jordan 1 look thanks to the pairing of Chicago Bulls colors and bellied Swoosh plus gum-bottomed vulcanized sole, so have a closer look below and let us know how these compare to the classic cupsoled Dunk.

Depending on your perspective, the story behind these new multicolored Quickstrikes from Nike Sportswear might begin back in early 2009 when the VNTG series Blazers got their start. It could also have been F/W ’10, when a series of Vintage Blazers were released that later saw their suede shades combined in an unprecedented melange for what had previously been a single color plus Sail formula. Then there’s also the debut of the Dunk High AC and resurrection of the Bruin in the NSW division, both following after the Blazer’s back-to-basics success. Any way you slice it, this new Premium pack featuring the Nike Blazer Mid 77, Autoclaved Dunk High and the new Bruin Mid has a ton of history behind it, and their sharper take on the aforementioned patchwork styles has these positioned for a festive holiday season at select retailers like Titolo.

Just over a year ago, Nike Sportswear issued VNTG Blazer Highs and Lows in colorways that had released earlier, creating the impression that they’d been crafted from leftover pieces from those previous drops. The in-your-face mix-and-match looks were a love or hate affair, but NSW may have figured out how to make this look more accessible by keeping the various colors in play on this new trio within a more complimentary range. The result is that the new Nike Dunk High AC and the Blazer and Bruin Mids that accompany it in this ’Multi-Color Vintage Pack’ have a bit more cohesion despite still opting for a one-piece-one-color buildout. With color names like Sequoia and Dark Khaki, you can tell even without seeing the newest Nike Dunk High AC that it’s going to be an earthy colorup for the fall season. Take in a few thousand more words as you examine photos of this latest Autoclaved Dunk High release from Nike Sportswear, its unique blend of ballistic nylon and suede an appropriate match for the rustic color palette. This organic color scheme looks particularly fresh juxtaposed against a pristine white sole, and you can see them from a variety of angles below before you pony up for a pair at NSW stores like Caliroots.

The textural contrast between suede and rugged nylon is a natural fit, just ask Tinker Hatfield, who successfully blended these elements on two of the five OG Air Jordan XIII colorways (and one of the two lows, too!). The aggressive playoff-oriented ‘Bred’ edition is scheduled as an early 2013 retro, but seeing as how we have six months left in this year and knowing that variety is the spice of life, how about a different take on that material combo from another 1985-born basketball series?
