The Nike Flyknit series is one that’s been praised for, among other things, the close fit that the brand new technology is capable of. But how do you improve upon the out of the box comfort already offered by the sneakers? A Nike door out in London has answered that question with the steaming lounge, a process that lets customers get their pair of the new Nike Flyknit One+ steamed up, which gets the insole all pliable. At that point you slide the sneakers on and they will mold to the exact shape of the wearer. Continue reading to get a video of this process, one that was available at a few spots in Eugene, OR during the Nike Flyknit Trainer’s rollout at the Olympic trials, and let us know if you’d give it a spin.

adidas primeknit vs nike flyknit round 2 German Court Reverses Decision in Adidas vs Nike Knit Sneaker Battle

It turns out the latest legal battle between Adidas and Nike isn’t quite over, with the injunction filed by Nike in German courts regarding the production of the adidas Primeknit to be set aside. Nike had originally charged Adidas with patent infringement due the similarities in the design and production between their Nike Flyknit series of runners and adidas’ Primeknit pair that debuted just a few months later. German courts are prepared to set the injunction aside as of November 7th, which should allow Adidas to resume production and theoretically deepen the range going forward. Hit the jump with us to see Adidas’ official statement on the matter and let us know what you think of this latest development.

When word first hit that adidas would be launching its own knit style sneaker, the adidas Primeknit, there’s no doubt that the design was familiar, echoing to some extent the Nike Flyknit technology that was first rolled out in February of this year. Apparently the sneaker was a little too familiar for the Swoosh bigwigs, with Nike now filing an injunction against adidas in German courts for patent infringement. The filing so far has led to the ceasing of all manufacture and distribution of the sneakers in Germany, a move made to protect the integrity and innovation of the Nike developed Flyknit line. Click through for another look at adidas’ knit sneaker, as well as Nike’s official statement on the matter, and let us know if you think the move was justified.

Nike NYC Flyknit Collective

What exactly is Nike Flyknit? Sure, we’ve detailed the specs and designs since the launch back in February, but Flyknit, to Nike, is more than what makes up a sneaker. It’s a directional movement toward a greater good, promoting sustainability while maintaining the benchmark of athletic performance that has defined the brand for decades. Nike introduces the Flyknit Collective in six cities, and today, we’re provided with an amazing first-hand view of the Nike NYC Flyknit Collective and the myThread Pavilion, built by artist Jenny Sabin.

Almost immediately, you can understand that her vision of Flyknit reaches down to the basic building blocks on the molecular level – almost like viewing cells through an electron microscope. This emanates her idea that each unit is in fact a building block for a structure with great complexity – much like the Flyknit’s complex form-fitting structure that begins with one single thread. Enjoy the experience below and check out the Nike NYC Flyknit Collective for yourself at Nike Stadium on Bowery.

Every once in a while Nike brings things back to square one, setting up some special treats for the likes of their birthing place at the University of Oregon just a couple hours south on I5 from their current Beaverton home. More often than not it comes in the form of sneaker releases, but for this summer it was Nike Camp Victory, a special installation designed by Skylab Architecture adjacent to historic Hayward Field that was set up for the duration of the Olympic Track and Field trials in Eugene over the summer. The futuristic camp consisted of three separate pavilions, glowing angular buildings that housed Nike tech demos, gear up for grabs, and a rare chance to purchase a pair of Nike Flyknit Trainers before the rest of the world. Hit the jump with us for a video tour of the space along with a photo recap and stick with us for more from Nike’s architectural adventures.
