Next March marks the 30th anniversary of Men Without Hats’ hit single ‘The Safety Dance’, and Nike Sportswear wants to ensure that any attempt to celebrate the occasion can be done both with comfort and avant garde style.  The Nike Footscape Free is something like the modern equivalent of the wacky asymmetry that typified 1980s new wave movement, its distinct eyelet configuration now taken up a notch by a barefoot-mimicking Free sole.  The overall look is even sleeker and more futuristic than the Air Footscape, a model still considered to this day to be one of the most ahead-of-its-time designs ever issued.  Click through for a closer look at the Safety Orange Footscape Frees and stick with Sneaker News for the official release date on this spring 2012 offering.  via SF

Nike Footscape Free – Summer 2012

nike footscape free summer 2012 Nike Footscape Free Summer 2012

We’ve been getting more and more information over the past couple weeks regarding the entire Nike, Inc. family’s plans for next summer, and the latest preview for Q2 2012 sees a cult classic runner paired with a cushioning platform with which it’d flirted in days gone by but never fully committed.  Images of the upcoming Nike Footscape Free will instantly call to mind the Air Footscape Motion and its variants, but this new style is a bit less structured with more of a true ‘barefoot’ feel.  There’s also a curious new sawtooth pattern eminating from the Free sole on these three pairs; can we expect this polka-dotted zig-zag look on all the pairs to be unveiled beyond the initial previews we saw this June?  Check these out with more images after the jump, let us know what you think and stick with Sneaker News for the Footscape Free release dates.  via CK

nike footscape free summary Nike Footscape Free

The Footscape series is among Nike Sportswear’s most hybridized models, having seen chukka-cut, woven, Free-soled and Flywire-uppered variations.  So while we’ve already seen Footscapes with a Free forefoot (Footscape (Free)Motion), the Swoosh’s patented grooved soles have never been as prominent on this family as on the Nike Footscape Free.  This model is basically your classic Air Footscape vamp with a reworked heel counter, placed atop the recently redesigned Nike Free 5.0 sole.  Click through for better views of Electrolime, Safety Orange and Treasure Blue pairs, let us know which is your favorite and stick with Sneaker News for updates on this spring 2012 collection. via CK.
