Lightweight mesh uppers are great and all, but what the heck are you supposed to do when it’s wet outside? We all know that the descent into the colder months equals nasty weather, so Nike Running has you covered, quite literally, with the new Nike Shield Collection. Comprised of six of the Swoosh’s freshest running silhouettes, this set takes its color inspiration from the grey and orange combo that appeared on so many shoeboxes over the years. Models including the Nike Free Run+ 2, Lunar Swift+ 3, Lunar Fly+ 2, Zoom Structure+ 15, Lunar Glide+ 3 and Lunar Eclipse+ have all been treated to special water-repellent uppers plus reflective materials to ensure that you’re visible even in the nastiest storms. Penn & Teller’s B.S. did a show ‘debunking’ obesity a few years back by showing that a heavier guy could out-hurdle someone who looked to be in better shape. But short, tall, fat, or skinny, there are few who can top Chinese Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang when it comes to sprinting and jumping. Xiang held the 110m world record for nearly four years, but it’s a mystery why it took nearly that long again after his reign ended for the man to earn a sneaker collaboration. But the time is finally here and the Liu Xiang x Nike LunarGlide+ 3 and Free Run+ 2 collection appears to have been worth the wait. Mens and ladies runners will be joined by a run of apparel featuring Xiang’s ‘flying man’ logo, all packaged in a dope wooden chest. A mere 86 sets will be issued in honor of the now-fallen 12.86s WR and released with a 15-set preview run this Monday, August 29th. The lucky first 15 buyers will join Liu himself at a special event on September 1st, so click through to see more and let us know if you’re readying your passport to get these in Beijing. via FRESHNESS

The various Nike Free models have become running staples since their introduction back in 2004, but only this year has Nike really stepped up the colorway and community treatment with the Nike Free Run+ 2. Earlier this year we saw the City Pack, and now we have a special iD model created for London’s own Run Dem Crew. This pack of runners has galvanized the jogging community in London, coming together as a group that accommodates all paces and levels of experience. This version of the Nike Free Run+ 2 was handed out to members of the crew who completed the recent London Marathon, with the pair pictured above featuring the time of completetion on the special RDC tongue tag. The Nike Lunarglide 2 hit the streets this March as part of a four-piece ‘City Pack’ and now another Nike Running model will debut with a similar localized drop. Here’s a new round of images from the Nike Free Run+ 2 Quickstrike ‘City Pack’, the Tokyo pair done in all black with a grey speckled Free sole. This model features the same ‘MMXI’ tongue tag, insoles and colorblocking as the other pairs, but will sneakerheads have a chance to collect the entire set? That remains to be seen but we do know for sure that the Tokyo Free Run+ 2 has hit Nike Harajuku and a couple other Tier Zero accounts in Japan, so click through to see some new photos and stick with Sneaker News for word on a possible US release date.

It was already among the lightest and most anatomically-natural runners the Swoosh ever released, so how can Nike improve upon the Free Run+? How about an even tougher layered construction highlighted by diamond-reinforced ripstop mesh — oh, and an impeccable colorway certainly doesn’t hurt. Check out this new Nike Free Run+ 2 in black and white, a simple design that’s every bit as delicious as an Oreo Double Stuf. These joints are at the top of the pile when it comes to featherweight ‘barefoot’ running and they should hit select retailers soon. via CT
