Generally it’s the older runners, the Air Maxes and the like that get the quickstrike treatment from Nike Sportswear. Every once in a while though the newer generation gets a taste of the special treatment, as with the Liu Xiang x Nike Running Collection from the latter half of last year. Furthering the limited releases for their brand new models, Nike is kicking off this year with the ‘Black Pack’, a deep range of colorways for both the Nike Free Run+ 2 and the Nike Lunarglide 3, split evenly down the middle for men and women. The look here is defined by a blacked out upper matched with an eye-popping outsole, with highlighter colors lighting up the pack. Follow us after the jump for a full look at the Nike Running ‘Black Pack’ which will be up for pre-order at Eastbay come Saturday, January 14th.

Lately most of the updates we’ve been giving you on Nike Free related sneakers have been on other models in the Swoosh repertoire getting the Free upgrade. You’ve seen the Nike Huarache Free 2012 and the Nike Footscape Free, but let’s not forget about the main event, the flag bearer for this year: the Nike Free Run+ 2. The layered construction on these runners has proven to be a great canvas for two toned colorways, exemplified here by the university red/volt partnership. Going with the typical neutral look on the lightweight mesh, the web like hits that wrap the sneaker show up with a burst of color. Get the full look after the jump and grab this new release now from Finishline.

The punchline is pretty tired at this point, but it was once a novelty in the rap game to claim you had “kicks like Liu Kang”, referencing a character in the arcade classic Mortal Kombat. Going forward it might be more appropriate to call on Olympic athlete Liu Xang given his killer collection put together in collaboration with Nike Sportswear. Part one dropped back in the summer and were here with the follow up, a four pair collection with featuring the Nike Free Run+ 2 and the Nike Lunarglide 3. The capsule is split down the middle color-wise for the ladies and men, with imperial purple pairs for the fellas and max orange for the ladies. One of the keys to a well-designed running shoe is ventilation, but like any weekend warrior could tell you, cold, nasty weather and breathable, porous mesh aren’t exactly BFFs. So those looking to keep fit footing the outdoor trails will be thrilled to learn of the latest addition to NIKEiD: the Nike Running Shield Collection. The Shield set of six released earlier this month in a Vintage Box-esque color theme, but the above pictured ‘Sprite’ selection is just one of countless combinations you can apply to Nike Free Run+ 2 and LunarGlide+ 3; got anything special in mind? Things have been sort of quiet on the Nike Free Run+ 2 front lately, having calmed down a little bit since releases like the City Pack and the Run Dem Crew exclusives. This one isn’t any sort of quickstrike/limited edition release but that’s no reason to look it over, as the black/red combo has always been a strong one in the hands of Nike. Despite the use of varsity red the outcome here is more “Vamp” than “Bred”, with the deep shade of red crawling across the outer layer of construction for the upper. Take a full look after the jump at the Nike Free Run+ 2 in Black/Anthracite/Varsity Red and grab your pair now from Finishline.

Lightweight mesh uppers are great and all, but what the heck are you supposed to do when it’s wet outside? We all know that the descent into the colder months equals nasty weather, so Nike Running has you covered, quite literally, with the new Nike Shield Collection. Comprised of six of the Swoosh’s freshest running silhouettes, this set takes its color inspiration from the grey and orange combo that appeared on so many shoeboxes over the years. Models including the Nike Free Run+ 2, Lunar Swift+ 3, Lunar Fly+ 2, Zoom Structure+ 15, Lunar Glide+ 3 and Lunar Eclipse+ have all been treated to special water-repellent uppers plus reflective materials to ensure that you’re visible even in the nastiest storms. Penn & Teller’s B.S. did a show ‘debunking’ obesity a few years back by showing that a heavier guy could out-hurdle someone who looked to be in better shape. But short, tall, fat, or skinny, there are few who can top Chinese Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang when it comes to sprinting and jumping. Xiang held the 110m world record for nearly four years, but it’s a mystery why it took nearly that long again after his reign ended for the man to earn a sneaker collaboration. But the time is finally here and the Liu Xiang x Nike LunarGlide+ 3 and Free Run+ 2 collection appears to have been worth the wait. Mens and ladies runners will be joined by a run of apparel featuring Xiang’s ‘flying man’ logo, all packaged in a dope wooden chest. A mere 86 sets will be issued in honor of the now-fallen 12.86s WR and released with a 15-set preview run this Monday, August 29th. The lucky first 15 buyers will join Liu himself at a special event on September 1st, so click through to see more and let us know if you’re readying your passport to get these in Beijing. via FRESHNESS
