The pair is not quite as pink as its predecessor, but it still manages to be flashy enough thanks to the heavy 3M treatment that shows up all over the upper. Other details include a geometric pattern on the lining, a call out to Aunt Pearl on the lace tips, and a few pink ribbon hits as a show of solidarity with the Breast Cancer Awareness movement. Said premium nature shines through, very literally in-fact thanks to the 3M details that pattern the summit white surface of the upper. The Nike KD V ‘Aunt Pearl’ release date is March 23rd, 2013. The sneaker, like the All-Star Nike KD V before it, will come with a bumped up price tag ($135) to reflect the ‘premium’ nature alluded to in the title. The pair sort of seems to reflect a turning point in Kevin Durant’s sneaker line, one that will allow his footwear to sit at the same premium level as the rest of the Nike Basketball fare (a move alluded to by designer Leo Chang in his most recent sit down with Sneaker News). The Nike KD V ‘Aunt Pearl’ definitely tones down the pinked out look that hit on the Nike Zoom KD IV iteration of that theme. But what it may lack in rosy hues it more than makes up for in its beautiful textures. Too many of us have an ‘Aunt Pearl’: a beautiful woman whose untimely exit underlines the importance of breast cancer awareness and research.
