Nike iD recently wrapped up the Twitter-driven #COUNTONKOBEiD contest in which Kobe hand-picked a winning design based on the ‘Home’ colorways of the Lakers uniforms. Kobe promised to wear the design in a game, and he certainly kept his word as he wore this clean colorway during yesterday’s game against the Bulls while helping his team win yet again. Kobe seems to be quite taken with the Twitter universe, and even talked about his new hobby on Jimmy Kimmel Live (and explains the origin of his #VinoUncorked hashtag), so why not shoot a Tweet and perhaps get a response? Kobe Bryant and Nike iD took to the Twitterverse for some help designing a pair of Kobe 8s for the Black Mamba to wear during a Home game. The #COUNTONKOBEiD contest started on January 30th and ended when Kobe himself picked the winner yesterday – this clean Purple/Gold colorway with a translucent outsole and the holiday snake upper graphic designed by @7thChamberPt2. Think you can design a better color? Better head to Nike iD to whip up your own pair, but in the meantime, let us know if you’d like to see Nike iD run more of these interactive contests by voicing your comments below.

Sneaker News regarding the Nike Kobe 8 iD keeps coming, as just a day after the #COUNTONKOBEiD contest kicked off, we get a glimpse at a new range of possibilities. As always, it’s your choice of colors that creates these one of one designs, be it a traditional Lakers ‘Home’ look as in the case of the contest requirements, or something a little different courtesy of these new Year of the Snake options. Eschewing the more overt serpentine appeal, these YOTS Kobe 8 iDs feature more of a polygonal pattern whose layered approach gives off a crystalline look. The Kobe 8 System iD ‘Year of the Snake’ is available to customize starting tomorrow, February 1st; what color scheme do you have in mind for your next NIKEiD?

The Mamba-related tweets have been increasingly popular over the last month now that Kobe has finally come out of his social media shell and into the digital world. Nike Basketball is certainly doing its part to spread the Nike Kobe 8 joy, with today marking the first day of a new contest circling around the Nike Kobe 8 iD. The rules are simple: create a ‘Home’ colorway of the shoes on Nike iD, share your design on Twitter with the #COUNTONKOBEiD hashtag, and wait and see if your design wins (you’ll either win a pair of the shoes, or Kobe will wear a pair of your design in a game). The Nike Kobe 8 iD just got another level of customization added in. Available now are three separate options as far as sole inserts on this latest Nike Basketball sneaker. You can do the Nike+ thing with the more expensive set up, or settle for the Lunarlon cushioning, or go with a thinner version that leaves some room for orthotic insert (with the latter two saving you $20). Check out all three set ups after the jump and cop yours now from Nikestore, lest your new pair of the Nike Kobe 8 finds its way onto your feet without the proper cushioning.

There’s no doubt that the recent arrival of the Nike Kobe 8 iD has plenty of sneakerheads eager to recreate hits from the Kobe Bryant sneaker catalog. Today marks the arrival of the Nike Kobe 8, with the sneaker just dropping in both the regular retail form and the NIKE iD customizable version.
