Next weekend Nike Basketball will lay out three great colorways of the Nike Kobe 8 to choose from – all hailing from the heralded ‘Year of the Snake’ capsule that was first introduced earlier this year. The ‘Port Wine’ colorway has the undeniable ‘sport’ spirit of the trio, using the the geometric python graphic on the upper with the Bright Crimson accents providing a nice punch to the design. Social Status is beginning to get their stock on hand so be sure to get these next week on the official release date of March 9th.

Releasing on March 9th, 2013, is the Nike Kobe 8 EXT ‘Year of the Snake’ in a university red suede getup. You’ll recall that the sneaker was one of the first that we ever saw for the Nike Kobe 8 in general, and at that early point we had them pegged as sort of a lifestyle takedown on the more straightforward basketball models. Indeed that is the case, as the pair is a Nike Sportswear production. While the official reveal on them happened long ago, the month of February was jam-packed with marquee sneaker releases, so it comes as no huge surprise that they’ve been pushed out a little further to get some more shine. The lucky Devils have been receiving Player Exclusive colorways of Kobe Bryant’s signature models for several years, perhaps because Kobe Bryant allegedly intended to attended the Durham school had he passed on the NBA Draft. Let’s say Kobe decided to skip out on the NBA and win a National Championship – chances are he might not have ended up with the Lakers because Vlade Divac would probably be unavailable as a trade chip even if Kobe delayed his NBA arrival for a year. Hypothetical scenarios aside, the Blue Devils now have two PE colorways of the Nike Kobe 8 to boast – this Black/White base with the signature Blue on the midsole, lining, and heel-clip. Custom designs notwithstanding, the Nike Kobe 8 System stands alone as the most graphically-intensive signature sneaker ever released. Ironic, then, that it was in this relatively spartan build that Kobe Bryant submitted his definitive performance of the season with 38 points in a tight win to pull ahead of Dallas toward the postseason. This black Kobe 8 PE adds Lakers-colored accents but none of the patterns to which we’ve become accustomed in recent years; how does this almost TB-ish Kobe 8 compare to the more complex colorways? Kobe Bryant’s support of the Duke Blue Devils continues as we get a first look at an official PE of the Nike Kobe 8 made for the Durham, NC school. In a rather similar colorway to the recently dropped ‘Blue Glow/Coral Snake’ colorway, the Kobe 8 Duke PE offers up a black inner lining and midsole with a white upper detailing and outsole (whereas the Blue Glow colorway went with a light grey). We’ll definitely start seeing the Duke players wear these (should they choose to) in the coming games, so check out the full shot of various details below and stay tuned for more updates on college PEs of Nike Basketball sigs.

Kobe Bryant and Nike iD took to the Twitterverse for some help designing a pair of Kobe 8s for the Black Mamba to wear during a Home game. The #COUNTONKOBEiD contest started on January 30th and ended when Kobe himself picked the winner yesterday – this clean Purple/Gold colorway with a translucent outsole and the holiday snake upper graphic designed by @7thChamberPt2. Think you can design a better color? So a bunch of the upcoming colorways of the Nike Kobe 8 has us definitely excited about what’s in store for the EM-built upper, but if you’re more into the classic looks, the Blue Glue colorway (aka Duke) drops tomorrow. Nike has officially dubbed these the ‘Blue Coral Snake’, with the graphic upper mirroring Kobe’s Black Mamba persona down to a tee. You probably won’t see Kobe rock these in a game, so get ‘em for yourself tomorrow and cop now on eBay.
