After a couple of weeks of voting, the results are in for the Sneaker News March Madness Nike LeBron Tournament. LeBron’s signature line taking its place in our annual tourney is a sign of his progression and how his signature line has ascended to the premier spot in basketball performance. This year’s bracket followed the original ultimate grail competition, two years focusing on different Air Jordan eras and last year’s Foamposite lineup. The fact that any man other than Michael could fill four regions by himself is further evidence of the King’s status.

For as long as the Nike LeBron 8 “South Beach” will remain such a coveted pick up, we will continue to see the colorway ported over to many a model in the custom scene. This new pair from Twizz Customs actually keeps the colorway at home on the Nike LeBron 8 model, but mixes in the later “Miami Vice” look from the Nike LeBron 9. The result has a sort of splattered look to and much more black going on than the original “South Beach”. See the Nike LeBron 8 “South Beach 8.5″ after the jump and let us know if you’re feeling this belated tribute from the hands of Twizz.

Air Jordan III ‘South Beach’ Customs

air jordan iii south beach customs by proofculture Air Jordan III South Beach Customs

When the colorists of Nike Basketball came up with the ‘South Beach’ colorway, they knew they had an all-time classic on their hands. The bright aqua blue and hot pink will always be recognized for one of the more controversial moments in sports history, but maybe that dark cloud is what gives the ‘South Beach’ it’s edge, because since it was first revealed in the late Fall of 2010, the South Beach colorway took the world by storm as sneakerheads hit Nike iD and sneaker customizers with this inspired theme. Using the Air Jordan III ‘Black Cement’ as the base (an act of sacrilege by some accounts), Proof Culture effortlessly transformed one classic to another by re-painting the upper in that familiar blue while adding the hot pink accents on the upper detailing as well as on the inner lining and insole. Your thoughts? Check out the extra shot below and let us know what you think.

Nike LeBron 8 ‘South Beach’ – Burned!

July 25th, 2011 by | 125 comments

nike lebron 8 south beach burned Nike LeBron 8 South Beach Burned!

Here on Sneaker News, our readers discussed the Nike LeBron 8 ‘South Beach’ to tedium, with the drawn line separating two major groups – the true sneaker fans, and the hypebeasts. The latter category is one that nobody admits to being a part of, but face it – we’ve all fallen victim to hype at one point or another. The South Beach LeBron 8 is one sneaker that always stirs up the ‘hypebeast’ debate, because at the time of its release, LeBron James was, arguably, the most hated man in sports, and the major reason many people were buying a LeBron shoe was due to it being limited in nature. Without surprise, the ‘hype’ surrounding the LeBron quickstrike release built, and the sneaker now fetches $1,000 with ease in the resale market.

Whether or not this display of sneaker sacrilege is a valiant attempt to prove a point or a pathetic attempt at sports performance is a judgement we’ll leave up to you. Elias of FeedingTheStreets and notable sneakerhead Franalations recently got together for a quick game of hoops, putting their own sneakers on the line. The losing player would burn their shoes, and it’s clear that Franalations and his Space Jam Dunks had a lot less on the line than Elias did, who put up his LeBron 8 ‘South Beach’ to the test. In the end, Elias lost a shortened game of HORSE, which resulted in his LeBron 8 South Beach experiencing Heat in many more ways than one. Check out the video below (wait ’til the very end) and let us know your opinion on the Burned South Beaches and the fact that someone actually did this!
