Now’s a time for a short celebration as noted earlier today here on Sneaker News when we showed you the Nike LeBron 8 P.S. ‘Dunkman’ available just as King James finally defeated the Boston Celtics. But here’s a situation not all too dissimilar to a teammate getting injured during the course of a playoff run: a sneaker that won’t be making it to retail like the others. Why did the black and Varsity Maize LeBron 8 PostSeason get axed before it was released? Did Nike Basketball feel they already had the market on lock with sick colorways like the Dunkman, not to mention the huge variety of LeBron VIII and V/2 (and Low) models? Whatever the reason, this is a model that if you see a legit pair, they’ll likely carry a premium tag thanks to being ultra-rare; would you have bought a pair if they were easy to come by? Maybe you could argue that Dwyane Wade’s Jordan Fly Wade in a similar style should have had the honor since he was the most obvious difference in LeBron getting past the Celtics this time around, but the timing is still sweet for King James. After having been ousted by Boston two of the last three years, LeBron finally beat a team we might look back at as ‘his Pistons’ (assuming he makes good on his super-human potential). So while there’s still much work to be done it’s nice to reflect on the moment with a sick colorway we’ve been awaiting for quite some time, the Nike LeBron 8 PS ‘Dunkman’. Perhaps it’s a good omen that James’ alter-ego colorway was saved for his PostSeason model, since a little boost can go a long way when you’re only eight wins from the title. Many have noted the similarity between the Nike LeBron 8 V/2 Low and Air Max 360 BB Low; does this new release strengthen or diminish the association in your mind? On one hand, this new LeBron 8 V2 Low is done in the same Bright Mango shade as the ‘Focus Pack’ AM360BB Lows, leaving both as fruit-colored lowtops with full-length Max Air and a whole lotta Flywire. But the LeBron comes off consdierably darker, at least in this round of images, so whose mango-flavored substance do you like better? LeBron James and the Miami Heat charged out to a 2-0 lead in their series against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, though we’ll avoid making any hasty predictions given that James’ Cleveland Cavaliers held the same lead against Boston during last year’s second round. But King James has some extra help for this NBA Playoff run and if he, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh continue to click on all cylinders, there’s very little that could keep him and the Nike LeBron 8 P.S. from a date with destiny at the Finals. And when the series shifts back to the TD Garden in Beantown on Thursday, LeBron will wear the black and Sport Red pair pictured above, a colorway set to hit retailers on May 13th that you can grab early thanks to 95soleman on eBay.

Even a subtle touch of color can transform even the most basic of colors into a fresh new motif. The LeBron 8 ‘Blackout’ is one shoe that’s capable of such transformation, since it acts as a blank slate thanks to the tonal black colorway, and Mack917 of ISS used his pair and took it to a whole new level with a few simple strokes of an Infrared pen. Outlining the swoosh, dotting the Lion’s eyes, coloring in the figure-8 lace eyelets, and filling in the lace-tips has given these LeBron 8 Blackouts a spicy punch, almost like the Player Exclusive that LeBron James himself could’ve worn during the season. LeBron James has had success so far wearing the black/Sport Red Nike LeBron 8 P.S. during away games for the 2011 NBA Playoffs, but things could soon be taking a dark turn. No, we’re not anticipating that the red-hot Heat slow down in their quest for ‘not one, not two, not three . . . ‘ championships. To the contrary, a smart bet would seem to be on Miami to advance into June and as the away games continue to rack up we’ll surely have an opportunity to spot King James in the ‘Blackout’ Nike LeBron 8 PS PE. This third version of King James’ eigth Nike Basketball signature sneaker is pictured above in a colorway you won’t see James himself wearing, a Varsity Royal and black combo with select Vibrant Blue accents to soften the high contrast look. Sprite was much luckier in picking LeBron James as their spokesman than they’d been in the past, King James now such a huge star as to see more signature sneaker releases in a single year than Grant Hill had injury-free seasons. And though the postseason is now well underway, it’s the second and not PS edition of the LeBron 8 getting the limon twist for summer. Check out these new images of the ‘Sprite’ Nike LeBron 8 V/2 Low, a model whose nickname speaks for itself, though the pictures that you’ll find when you click on the jump below are worth thousands of words.
