Nike takes over for Reebok as the official supplier of NFL licensed apparel shortly after the Super Bowl in February; do they have similar plans to influence the NBA’s jerseys starting with that league’s All-Star Game a week later? Nike Basketball’s latest revelations fly in the face of the traditional East blue/West red color configuration, with the related Zoom Kobe VII going for black with a multicolored array of accents as this Nike LeBron 9 ‘Big Bang’ centers its otherworldly aesthetic on the ‘other’ coast. A firey orange upper and glow in the dark translucent outsole are sure to draw attention at the ASG in Orlando irrespective of their congruency with the Eastern Conference unis; will you find a place in your wardrobe for one of the more inventive colorways we’ve seen applied to the LeBron 9? NBA All-Star Weekend has long been one of those events that you know will be brimming with related sneaker releases. The stage is too big and bright for the big name brands to turn down the idea of trotting out a new colorway in grand fashion, and Nike in particular has made a great use of that over the last few years. This time around they appear to be taking the ‘All-Star’ idea very literally, at least on this new colorway of the Nike LeBron 9. At first known as the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Big Bang’ this red hot colorway utilizes a galactic flavor, especially on the lining and insole which feature starry patterns and an outline of the Leo constellation, an obvious choice with the ubiquitous Lion/LeBron imagery. This time around we’ve got a great look at the insides, as well as some up close shots that show off the slick details on this upcoming colorway. The NBA All-Star Game is likely the most star-studded, action packed event in American professional sports. Dunk contests, skills challenges, the Rookie Challenge, and of course, the Sunday Night main event make up the most exciting weekends in sports, and you can certainly expect LeBron James of the Miami Heat to be on the front lines for the Eastern Squad. The Nike LeBron 9 ‘Big Bang’, which has been the hot topic in Nike LeBron new lately, turns out be the 2012 NBA All-Star Game shoe, which is rather interesting considering the East has been represented primarily by blue. That’s why that ‘Griffey/Dunkman‘ edition we showed you late last week was first thought to be the All-Star edition, but it appears for now that Nike has some special plans of intergalactic proportions. We’ve got a new set if images for you courtesy of air-randyhk below, so take a peek and let us know what you think, and stick with Sneaker News for more updates regarding this possible All-Star colorway.

The season hasn’t even started yet, and already we know a few things. One is that the expectations for LeBron James’ Miami Heat are identical to last year’s, which is to say that they’re even higher given the growing pressure crunch of each year he goes without that elusive championship ring. The other is that, as some people seem to forget or find funny to flippantly disregard, King James has enjoyed his fair share of crunch time glory (Detroit, you jelly?) and that’s one of the big reasons we know for a fact he’s going to be a 2012 NBA All-Star Game starter, if not the leading vote-getter. So even if he never made good on that dunk contest promise from a few years back, LeBron will be stealing the show in this shimmering navy blue Nike LeBron 9 ‘All Star’. We’ve already seen two super-energetic colorways in the presumed ‘Dunkman’ and all-new ‘Big Bang’ LeBron 9s earlier today; how does this relatively calm design match up? Check these out after the jump, and stick with Sneaker News for the release date and all of the 2012 NBA All Star sneakers. via Random Acts of Cool
UPDATE: It has since been pointed out by Jason Petrie that these are not in fact the All-Star edition, but actually a Griffey-inspired version with possible Dunkman ties. Check it out here.
