Like last year’s ‘South Beach’ LeBron 8s, the LeBron 9 ‘Cannon’ (deemed this year’s Pre-Heat release by Nike) has seen a funky release schedule. After an initial release in Miami, the Cannons were slated for a late November release, then were subsequently pushed back to December 2nd. Some retailers release the shoe on Veteran’s Day (the Cannon was military-inspired). So some of you likely copped early in Miami, copped early because you got lucky, or are waiting eagerly for tomorrow’s release. The LeBron 9 Cannon is definitely one of the must-haves for the Holiday 2011 season, so don’t miss out! These will be somewhat limited in stock so be sure to hit your local Nike Basketball retailer tomorrow, or guarantee yourself a set by copping a pair on eBay.

Already nine LeBron 9 colorways have released, and a single NBA game hasn’t been played! The Cannons, inspired by the military base where the Miami Heat trained during the 201o offseason, actually released in early October at select Miami retailers as this year’s ‘Pre-Heat’ colorway, but the rest of the world has its chance to add these to respective collections this Saturday. Featuring a high-energy combination of military-themed colors (and a secondary set of orange-on-orange speckled laces), the LeBron 9 ‘Cannon’ is arguably the most popular of the bunch thus far, and should go fast once they become available. You can cop these this Friday, December 2nd at select Nike retailers, while others like WEST will have them on sale Saturday. Or you can ensure yourself a pair now by hitting up eBay.

Foot Locker, the biggest retail footwear chain in the world, teamed up with Complex to introduce ‘Kicksmas’, an unofficial holiday of sneaker-giving that truly runs 365 days a year. The event was held at Cabanas in the Chelsea district in New York City, where the lounge/restaurant was decorated with displays showcasing the biggest sneaker releases of the Holiday 2011 season – notably the ‘Black Pack’. Live music was provided by New York’s own DJ Clark Kent, and select attendees were entered into a raffle prize, with the winner receiving the entire Black Pack! The Nike LeBron 9 ‘Cannon’ drew a ton of media attention when LeBron James first wore the colorway during the South Florida All-Star Classic exhibition game in early October. Here we have another detailed look at this Armed Forces-inspired colorway; the military bases where the Miami Heat players spent time training during the off-season was said to be the muse for this high-energy colorway, and with today being Veteran’s Day, it certainly is fitting that we get another visual helping of this great release courtesy of RMK. Never (in this decade) has a sneaker caught the attention of non-sneaker media outlets like the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Cannon’ did. The military-inspired colorway of the ‘Cannon’ was deemed newsworthy by sports blogs, fashion blogs, gossip blogs, and even the biggest names in those respective categories, like ESPN and CNN. LeBron James debuted the ‘Cannon’ LeBron 9 during that star-studded South Florida All-Star Classic that was held in late September, and since then we’ve all been patiently awaiting the wide release (these dropped first in limited numbers at select retailers in Miami). The release date for cannon was originally set at November 4th, but Nike has just confirmed a minor postponement of this special edition colorway to December 3rd. November is already a jam-packed month with big-name kicks, so perhaps this delay is a blessing in disguise. Now that you have the new date circled on your calendars, are these worth the wait? No NBA? No problem. The Miami Heat ‘Big Three’ played unofficial host of the South Florida All-Star Classic Game, which featured two star-studded rosters in one of the most anticipated exhibition games in recent memory. LeBron James laced up in the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Cannon’ – a sneaker that released today at select retailers in Miami; the Cannon, which represents the Heat pre-season training session that took place at a military base, serves as a ‘warm up’ (or pre-heat, if you will) to the Nike LeBron 9 debut in the U.S., and you can certainly consider the South Florida Classic as a warm-up to the upcoming NBA season (if it happens). While this particular event had no bearing on any W/L columns, the participants, which included the Miami Big Three, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Rajon Rondo, Russell Westbrook, and more, played hard at both ends of the court, leading up to a thrilling one-point victory for Team Wade. Jason Petrie recently confirmed that there would be no ‘South Beach’ colorway of the Nike LeBron 9, but the ‘Cannon’, much like last year’s ‘South Beach’ LeBron 8, is LeBron’s display of affection and gratitude to his fans in Miami. Releasing exclusively in Miami, a month ahead of the nationwide limited release, is the Nike LeBron 9 in the Cannon colorway; it features a military-themed colorway, which signifies the 2010-11 Miami Heat pre-season training at the military base in Fort Walton Beach in Florida. The ‘China’ colorway has traditionally been the first LeBron colorway to release for each signature model, but thanks to LeBron’s relocation from Cleveland to Miami, a new annual tradition has risen. Last year’s ‘Pre-Heat’ colorway of the LeBron signature shoe, commonly referred to as the ‘South Beach’, featured the dazzling hot pink and turquoise blue colorway, but this year’s Pre-Heat will be the ‘Cannon’ colorway, inspired by the Air Force Base where the Miami Heat have trained during the off-season.
