Some salty NBA fans might not put LeBron in the category of ‘elite’ players until he’s got a ring to show for his dominance, but even those doubters oughta have a hard time denying the elite status given to his post season sneaker for this year. The Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite is set to arrive in a group of colorways that are anything but conspicuous, with perhaps the least attention grabbing of the bunch still being a gaudy golden affair. With that being said the most attention grabbing of the bunch has to be this redux of the ‘South Beach’ colorway, a minty pair that we’ve seen gain a number of fans over the past couple weeks. Turns out Fab isn’t the only Brooklyn boy with an early line on Nike’s LeBron 9 Elite releases, and to be honest this sneaker sighting shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given how close Jigga and King James have kept things over the years. Jay-Z showed up at the last Nets game of the season taking his sneaker game to ‘South Beach’ right before the Nets take their talent to BK. Fabolous showed off his early footwork this weekend while rocking the stage, lacing up in this Nike LeBron 9 Elite that the rest of us won’t get a chance at until June. In retrospect, the South Beach LeBron 8 could not have arrived at a better time. Hearts were still sensitive about LeBron departure to Miami, but instead of succumbing to the angry rants and blog-posts, Nike responded with ‘Rise’ and hit us with the South Beach colorway, boldly stating “He’s in Miami now. Deal with it.” in such a way that not much else could be said. Since then, the South Beach LeBron 8 skyrocketed in price while LeBron went to the NBA Finals in his first season with Miami, solidifying his decision to truly be to the best of his interests. ‘South Beach’ returns once more to the LeBron 9 Elite, which carries a hefty price-tag of $250 thanks to the re-tooled build and materials like carbon fiber, Pro Combat, and a lightweight upper. No U.S. release date has been confirmed yet, but these have begun to pop up at Euro retailers like ATAF, so perhaps a release will be sooner than later. Hot Pink and crisp Aqua Blue has been a staple of the Miami ‘aura’ for decades, but credit the LeBron 8 ‘South Beach’ for revitalizing that Retro-themed vibe in the current generation of advanced color palettes. Since the advent of Nike’s South Beach, there have been a plethora of attempts to recreate that energy by way of custom sneakers, apparel, and other endeavors that admittedly fell short of the South Beach hype, so how does this upcoming Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite fare? We first showed you detailed angles of these a few days ago, and while the ‘South Beach’ theme is rather apparent, these could very well be called the ‘McFly’ for its stark resemblance to the unreleased Nike Hypermax ‘McFly’.
