The Kobe 8 EXT is strong in red suede, a KD V colorway would have tremendous potential and there are plenty of other LeBron 10s that rank high on the neck-breaking scale. But given the wholly novel approach to cutting edge performance plus impeccable style represented by the Nike LeBron X EXT ‘Cork’, one could argue this is the most impressive of the Nike Basketball x Sportswear lifestyle editions. It’s unquestionably one of the standout sneakers released or previewed so far in 2013 and accordingly, you can expect to reach into the four-figure range when checking out early eBay listings. Time will tell where this leather tongue and laced, cork-uppered Quickstrike ranks amongst the greatest Nike LeBron releases of all time, and with a February 23rd release date reported for select Asian retailers, you’ll want to stick with Sneaker News to see if that date holds here in the US.

Is the ‘Cork’ LeBron the greatest LeBron of all-time? It could be, but it’s definitely not the first to have that off-the-court style. The LeBron shoe with that title goes back all the way to 2004, when Nike released the special ‘All-Star’ colorway of the Nike Air Zoom Generation. Things sure have changed in ten years, since got from wheat nubuck to cork and premium leather, and there’s no doubt that this 2/23 release will go down as one of the best of the year. Take a look at this incredible release below and check out the entire listing from memori3z1123 on eBay.

Inspired by the celebratory tradition of popping bottles after major events, the Nike LeBron X ‘Cork’ was put together by Nike Sportswear, fashioning the sporty, technical design with an immensely luxurious ‘Cork’ upper. Much like the rich, elegant bottles of bubbly, the LeBron X ‘Cork’ will come pacakaged in a wooden box, featuring burnt carvings of LeBron and Nike insignia on the outer and a leather lined interior with the inspirational ‘Earned Not Given’ slogan (Nike’s been killing it with LeBron X packaging). These are expected drop sometime this month in very limited quantities, so check out the shots of this special packaging and let us know what you think.

With the revelation of the ‘Cork’ and ‘Denim’ version of the Nike LeBron X, we can only wait in excitement for other lifestyle-centric material applications on a sneaker that’s as teched out as any Nike sneaker has ever been. Cork material and the LeBron X (or any sneaker for that matter) seems like a funky mix, but in a year during which LeBron popped bottles left and right for all his accomplishments, Nike had to go to the next level to make the shoe that much more special. With the replacement of Hyperfuse, the LeBron X ‘Cork’ is noticeably heavier than the Hyperfuse-laden base model, while the material itself is fairly rigid like a fine leather that needs some “breaking in”. In any case, Sneaker News has a detailed gallery of the LeBron X ‘Cork’ below, so check ‘em out and stick with Sneaker News for all your LeBron X updates. Thanks to windycitysole.

For the past few years in particular, LeBron James’ Nike Basketball signature lineup has proven that cutting edge performance models can continue to reach spaceward in their composition and still look dope as streetwear. And just when you think it couldn’t get any hotter, the Swoosh roundball division gets up with the NSW lifestyle branch to create casually oriented luxury designs like the Nike LeBron X ‘Cork’. These lates images show us that like the Air Force 1 Bespoke before it, applying such an unorthodox material to a recognizable silhouette makes for the kind of wow factor that’s only amplified by the fact that they’re not at all flashy. A superb debut for the LeBron X NSW suggests great things to come, both if it can make the purported December drop date and as more of the Basketball x Sportswear sigs make themselves known. Have a closer look at all the details below including the sockliner quilting and stick with Sneaker News for updates.
