A few colorways dropped this summer, but the LunarLon plus Hyperfuse (plus Nike+) upgrade has been lost in the mix since the Air Safari’s 25th anniversary kicked into full gear. But we haven’t seen the last of the Nike Lunar Safari Fuse+, and this latest pair has the slightest nod to another 1987-born legend with just a hint of OG blue Air Max 1 against a grey base. Let us know how Safari Print comes off on a Hyperfuse base as compared to traditional leather and suedes and stick with Sneaker News to see when these arrive at Nike Sportswear retailers.

It seems pretty much inevitable these days that no matter how long a particular trainer has been stuck in the vault it’s destined to be trotted back out for a modern day makeover. Both the Hyperfuse and Lunar approach have been popular choices for such makeovers, with the two technologies converging on 2012′s all new Nike Lunar Safari Fuse+. Most of us aren’t too likely to put any serious running miles on the upcoming Nike Air Safari retros so these serve up a bit more of a functional alternative. The latest colorway we’ve got our eye on keeps things relatively stoic up top, utilizing the Lunar foam down below to slide some color into the dark design. Hit the jump to get a look and pre-order this Nike Lunar Safari Fuse+ now from End.

Not that there’s anything wrong with the Lunar look on this Tinker Hatfield classic, but we can imagine that if we weren’t also being treated to the OG version of the Nike Air Safari this year, then the Nike Lunar Safari+ shown here might not be treated with such open arms. Fortunately, the Beaverton team is double dipping, with the newer end of the spectrum ending up with quite an eye-popping combo this time around thanks to the heavy volt treatment. Click through to check out the full shots of the sneakers and let us know in the comments if you’ve got plans to pick up the Nike Lunar Safari+, the Nike Air Safari, or both in 2012.  Photos: Burner

The Air Max 1 has been relatively quiet with its 25th anniversary celebration in 2012, but even stealthier is one of its contemporaries who’s been planning a party for the second half of the year.  We got a hint of the Air Safari’s quarter-century of service when the Air Force 1 got its signature print in a pack of new options on NIKEiD, but you’ll really get a sense of the occasion when new colorways and styles like the Nike Lunar Safari debut later this year.  Four colorways are depicted in additional images below, ranging from the OG greys and orange to new designs that have a ‘blacklit’ look to them thanks to vibrant accents on a black base.  Look them over after the jump, let us know the one(s) for which you’re most excited and stick with Sneaker News for release info.  via HS

nike lunar safari red grey 4 Nike Lunar Safari Officially Unveiled

The crown jewel of Nike Running’s output in 1987 will always be recognized as the Air Max 1, but Tinker Hatfield places just as much pride in another running shoe of that year – the Air Safari. The running/lifestyle sneaker celebrates its 25th year in 2012, with a year’s worth of releases like the ‘Suede Pack’ slated to be the primary method of celebration for this shoe, and today, Nike Sportswear officially unveiled the Nike Lunar Safari as part of the Nike Fast Unleashed Collection. Combining the familiar Safari silhouette with a redesigned Lunar outsole, the Lunar Safari arrives once more in a completely revamped package fitting of contemporary standards of performance running and street-sensibility.  We’ve got a look at three upcoming colorways of the Nike Lunar Safari after the jump so take a look at the detailed gallery and let us know where the Air Safari ranks among your all-time faves.

Nike Lunar Safari – Upcoming Colorways

nike lunar safari purple black Nike Lunar Safari Upcoming Colorways

For 2012, Nike Sportswear will prepare a nice 25th Anniversary celebration for one of the most underrated Nikes of all-time – the Nike Air Safari. Part of the original five of Tinker’s Nike Air Pack in 1987, the Air Safari has enjoyed a continuing cult following that started from day one; the shoe was originally meant to be for running, but the wacky design made it such a style icon that even today, the Air Safari is looked upon for inspiration (and anything with Safari seems to grab copious amounts of attention). Dropping later this year is the Nike Lunar Safari – a Lunar-outsoled and reconstructed Air Safari that optimizes Nike’s latest comfort tech with the iconic design. This first look at the Black/Purple and Mint Green/Black tells us that Nike has no qualms about giving this shoe some colorful personality, but expect some of the OG colorways to drop as well. Expect these two in the Fall, but we’ll keep you updated. via Tenisufki

nike safari deconstruct summary Nike Lunar Safari

Nike is reliving its glory days of the pre-Y2K era by re-releasing some of its most memorable sneakers of all time. The Nike Air Safari was made popular for its lightweight construction and funky design on the upper, which Tinker Hatfield stated was inspired by a couch he saw at a thrift store. While the Air Safari has re-released on two separate occasions, brace yourself for another Safari redux for 2012, re-done with a light-weight mesh upper and Lunar cushioning. Seven colorways of the Air Safari are to be expected, so take a look at the upcoming re-done classic and let us know what you think of this ‘hybrid’ design.
