The Koston 2 IT Golf mashup combined its skate upper with a nubby, grass-gripping sole earlier this month. Now, on the other side of the Masters, we see a new Nike Lunar Swingtip arrive just as golf season gets into full swing. It’s easy to see why Eric Koston’s elegant Nike Skateboarding sequel matches up with this wingtip-inspired cross between a classic golf spike and a modern casual turf trainer. This new Ridgerock suede edition offers an immensely wearable grey/brown shade that you can see in greater detail below before you buy straight from NikeStore.

Michael Jordan’s influence over the footwear industry is vast, but even MJ and a deep arsenal of personal gems hasn’t elevated the mainstream golf shoe market beyond its traditional roots. The highly desirable marriage of form and function represented by the Nike Lunar Swingtip CVS might help to get the ball rolling, this clean canvas lowtop matching a hint of plimsoll/casual style with the performance of LunarLon cushioning and fairway-gripping outsole lugs. Anthracite and Blackend Blue make strong first impressions as you’ll see after the jump, then grab yours from select retailers including Premier.

Nike’s late-May announcement they’d be divesting in the Umbro and Cole Haan brands was relatively surprising considering the latter’s LunarGrand line had just gotten started (and has more releases on the way), but it’s not like the Swoosh became an $11B company without doing business the right way. Indeed, it appears Nike Golf had already calculated the loss and came up with a suitable replacement for those upscale LunarLon design, and this one might be even more versatile. The Nike Lunar Swingtip is a spikeless golf shoe inspired by Beaverton’s action sports affiliates at Hurley, a design whose smart looks and functional traction lugs should further the blending between skate/streetwear and traditional upscale menswear. Three simple suede colorways are depicted in greater detail below, so let us know which looks best and stick with Sneaker News for word on the US release. Photos: atmos

Isn’t the combination of Wingtip design and Lunar cushioning the Cole Haan Lunargrand? Not so fast, because Nike’s whipped up its own version of the classic golf staple called the Nike Lunar Swingtip, set for a release beginning this July. Nike worked closely with Hurley, one of its Affiliate brands, for the design of the shoe, grabbing insights not just from golfers, but from skater, surfers, and other action sports athletes who like to tee off from time to time. Wingtips have always been an unofficial ‘uniform’ of golf, but with the casual Lunar outsole and the engineered outsole traction fine-tuned at the Nike Sports Research Lab, the Lunar Swingtip combines pure performance with the specific action sports fashion style. Four different colorways are available with three different materials such as leather ($150), suede ($140), and canvas ($130) so check ‘em out below and look out for a release starting July 1st.
