Nike Lunar TR1 “Home Run Derby”

Last night marked the tenth Major League Baseball All-Star Game where the winning team secured home-field advantage for its league in the World Series.  If San Francisco can get Tim Lincecum off the schneid, it’s clear from last night’s offensive outburst they’ve got what it takes to get back to the Fall Classic, but for today, all of baseball’s giants are taking a much needed rest.  Perfect timing, then, to prepare yourself for the home stretch with the new ‘Home Run Derby’ Nike Lunar TR1, a silver build whose uniquely placed golden gradient on the rear sets these apart from all the faded LunarGlide 4s we’ve seen this summer.  These hit NikeStore during last night’s game and promptly sold out, but luckily, you can still find yours right now at Dick’s.

2012 MLB All-Star Footwear Recap

2012 mlb all star game 2012 MLB All Star Footwear Recap

The baseball diamond isn’t exactly a prime platform to show off good-looking kicks. First off, the shoes need to be equipped with turf/grass-ready builds, and by game’s end the shoes are all dirtied up anyway! However, notable footwear has slowly seeped into the MLB thanks to guys like Brian Wilson, who rocked Mags before anyone else did (in a dirty MLB dugout of all places), C.C. Sabathia, the reigning Air Jordan Cleat PE king, and Jimmy Rollins, the latest to whip out some neck-breaking affair.

Over the 2012 MLB All-Star festivities, we noticed quite a collection of colorful cleated footwear starting with the Home Run Derby on Monday night, when the contestants wore the ‘Home Run Derby’ PE of the Nike Air Max MVP Elite 3/4 Metal (and a bunch of other colorways during the All-Star Game, like David Wright and Melky Cabrera’s Hot Orange PE). Even during pre-game warm-ups, the All-Stars opted for some nice selections like the Nike Lunar TR1+, Air Max TR1+ 360 Breathe, and even the Nike Zoom KD IV (worn by Pittsburgh’s Andrew McCutchen). adidas brought the fire with the hot-orange adidas adiZero Sonic Cleat, as did Under Armour, which went for the sick golden detailing. Is this the start of a sneaker-renaissance in baseball? Check out the recap from MLB’s mid-summer classic below and let’s hope baseball becomes a sport to watch for in the beloved ‘Feet’ category! Wednesday, July 11th will be the slowest day of the sports year, as not a single top-tier professional game will played.  Football’s gearing up to dominate the fall, basketball just wrapped up its biggest championship with an Olympic gold to be decided in weeks, and Major League Baseball will finally take a breather after the Midsummer Classic.  But today is kind of like the storm before the storm, because while Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Kansas City decides home-field advantage in the World Series, there will be just as much attention on the recently renovated Kauffman Stadium during tonight’s Home Run Derby.  Nike Baseball is ready with their typically impeccable timing, bringing forth a pack of cleats along with one special edition pair done similarly to one of the Training division’s best.  The Nike Lunar TR1 and Air Max MVP Elite 3/4 cleat represent the best pre- and intra-game footwear choices for the best baseball players on the planet, and these special colorways are available now from select retailers including NikeStore.

On Thursday, Sneaker News got the unique opportunity to give the Nike+Training/Basketball technology a whirl by completing a full wear-test session at the Rivington Court in NYC. However, this experience is not limited to us media folks, because Finish Line has teamed up with Nike at two select locations to offer up the Nike+ Training/Basketball Experience at two of its major locations. In a special event Friday morning (before the mall was open to the public), Finish Line extended an invitation to its most loyal customers to try out the new Nike+ technology after a thorough overview of the products, allowing the invitees to test out the new technology and run through the same drills we were treated to on Thursday afternoon. The Nike+ Experience is open to the public throughout the weekend at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, NY as well as its location in the Beverly Center in Los Angeles, CA, so if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by to test your athleticism against your friends or strangers. In addition, the Nike+ Training and Basketball Collection (Lunar Hyperdunk+, Lunar TR1+, Lunar Hyperworkout+) is available at all Finishline locations now.
