What started with college jerseys is making its way to the pro ranks slowly but surely, and it gets you thinking: if the top footwear brands can influence these cultural institutions’ aesthetics, how much further might they continue?  Is it possible that one day we might see a special edition Chicago city flag in neon?  Nike Running gives us just that look on this new Nike LunarGlide+ 5 created for the Chicago Marathon.  It appears to be a Shield makeup with Engineering Mesh’s graphical capabilities left at the wayside in favor of an all neon and black build including the Windy City’s famed four stars on the tongue.  Stick with Sneaker News to see what becomes of these and let us know where these would finish in a race against other recent marathon-commemorating designs.

Will Mineral Teal wind up being to the second half of 2013 what Dark Atomic was to the first half of this year? It has some catching up to do to meet the bar set by the Atomic shades this spring, but Mineral Teal is becoming a bit more prominent now with new releases like this ladies’ runner pictured above. These Nike WMNS LunarGlide+ 5s add the darker Dark Sea for tonal depth and Volt for a color pop, and the bluish-greenish-yellowish palette comes to life without leopard spots or camouflage patterns. Check out more shots below, then pre-order yours so they ship next month from Titolo.

Nike’s shield series of runners is coming back around this year, as evidenced by the Nike LunarGlide+ 5 on display here. Of course equally as attractive as the weather-shielded status of the shoes is the reflective touch. This pair makes particularly interesting use of it thanks to the cheetah spots underneath the mesh that create a negative space against the flashed out surface. See the sneakers with us after the click and then pick up the Nike LunarGlide+ 5 shield from Caliroots now if you like what you see.

Nike WMNS LunarGlide+ 5 “Camo”

Perhaps the subtlest of all patterns being applied to the Nike LunarGlide+ 5 belong to these ladies’ colorways utilzing a tonal camouflage look.  The WMNS LunarGlide 5 appears here today in a mix of blue shades, splotches somewhere between a cloudy day and traditional camo gear.  Soft pink highlights additional tech on the Dynamic Flywire cables and top half of the LunarLon midsole, but balanced against the tonal blue upper, this isn’t so much explicitly feminine as it is skillful colorblocking.  Check out a new set of images after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for the latest LunarGlide 5 release info.
