One can look back to Nike Sportswear’s 2010 Athletics Far East capsule as a turning point where the earliest foreshadowing of today’s trend toward patterned designs met with subtle monochromatic palettes. And today we have a new trio of Japanese runners keeping the theme alive with some more traditional concealment patterns on three of the Swoosh’s most advanced Lunar foam-cushioned runners. The Nike LunarSpider R3, LT+ 2 and LunarSpeed Lite+ are all sleek LunarLon speedsters and they’re unified by the use of neutral camo uppers plus black branding and support structures. The original Lunarspider came through with a couple AFE-ish drops in early ’11, and you can let us know which silo/colors did it better after you’ve seen more of this new pack below.

After a couple of collections centered around Japanese running clubs kicked off the Nike LunarSpider 2 last October, it’s almost like the rain came down and washed all the new colorways out. But with spring approaching, the sun will rise to dry all the paths where you might want a lightweight runner with eye-grabbing style, and Tokyo’s Nike Harajuku just got three new colorways in stock that fit that bill perfectly. Each pair uses a very similar colorblocking pattern, with white/red/black and yellow/blue/black coming through along with the addition of a black/silver/blue makeup for wide sizes. These aren’t common at US retailers, but does their distinctive look and feather-light, super-breathable construction warrant an import?

Nike Running will be rolling out the newest Zoom Structure+ release in collaboration with Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER label in just a few short days, and along with that new Zoom Structure 15 comes the sequel to the model Takahashi used on his first Gyakusou International Running Association design. The UNDERCOVER x Nike LunarSpider LT+ 2 features the same kind of heavily ventilated, Flywire-reinforced construction as the initial LunarSpider, these two new colorways equally subdued yet eye-catching as the initial GIRA drops. So now there are three upcoming Gyakusou runners on the way for this Saturday in Japan; will a 21 Mercer release be soon to follow?
