Nike Paul Rodriguez 6 – Black – Blue Glow

In his Sneaker News exclusive interview last week, Nike Skateboarding superstar Paul Rodriguez confided that he’s awed by fellow Swoosh signature athletes like Jordan, LeBron, Kobe, Tiger and Federer. P-Rod likened his ascension to winning the lottery, but instead of a manatee tank controlling the output, Rodriguez reminded us that the R&D at Nike’s disposal easily surpasses most of the smaller brands, combined. That level of detail is readily apparent in the new Nike P-Rod 6, a LunarLon-cushioned lowtop that shows how far this series (and skate aesthetics in general) have come since the original arrived in 2006. Have a closer look at this black and blue colourp after the jump, then find yours at select retailers like Premier.

Nike 6.0 P-Rod 6 – Available

Paul Rodriguez’ signature line was the most successful in Nike SB’s first decade, a series of sneakers and gear so pouplar they couldn’t be contained by ‘select’ skate shops. P-Rods started popping up at a variety of retailers, most notably mall-based chain stores a couple of years back, and in retrospect, this shift foreshadowed a move we’re seeing made permanent with Paul’s newest kicks. Dropping the ‘SB’ from the Nike P-Rod 6 is kind of like Doogie Howser getting his own apartment: the prodigy has been established as force with which to be reckoned, and now he’s out in the world on his own. Click through to see the surgical precision with which the Nike Paul Rodriguez VI was built, let us know whether the Anthracite or black pair is more exciting and grab yours today from NikeStore.

Nike P-Rod 6 – New June 2012 Colorways

One of the standouts of Nike SB’s current taxonomical shuffling of sorts is that its longest-running signature model, the Nike P-Rod, has completely shed the ‘SB’ tag. It’s entirely clear that Paul Rodriguez still skateboards, so the P-Rod is undeniably a skateshoe despite what name it has (or hasn’t). The West Coast-based skater will continue to ride for the Swoosh, even if his shoe is now under a broader ‘action sports’ umbrella rather than a specific skateboarding category, so that’s all that really matters, right? Three new colorways of P-Rod’s sixth signature model just hit Nike retailers, so take a look below and head to one of the most revered retailers of the game in Skate Park of Tampa to secure yours.

Although Tony Hawk is probably the closest thing skateboarding has to a Michael Jordan-like figure, there’s no arguing that Paul Rodriguez has quite a bit in common with His Airness. Aside from those FTLOTG P-Rod IVs in Carolina blue, the connections include dominating a sport from an early age, both directly and with regard to marketing. And while P-Rod’s signature line isn’t the full-blown subsidiary Jordan Brand represents, Rodriguez’ kicks and gear have indeed grown beyond the Nike SB division that birthed them. Accordingly, this new Nike P-Rod 6 GS comes without ‘SB’ branding and will be available at a bunch more stores, including Burner, who’ll have this Elephant print-Swooshed pair in stock come July.

No matter what happens here on out with Nike Skateboarding, Paul Rodriguez, arguably the most widely known Nike team rider, will continue to represent the Swoosh brand regardless of any ‘SB’ designation. His pro model line was the first to branch into the unlabeled Action Sports umbrella, and news of other pro models following that trend has us wondering what really is in store for the SB label that has been credited for growing the immense sneaker-collector constituent of the last decade. Here we have a first look at a Melon/Volt/Red colorway of the upcoming Nike P-Rod 6; it features a low-pro skate-shoe design with a huarache-esque heel-clip, perforated uppers, and minimalist stitches on the toe-box for an simple touch of aesthetic prowess. More angles below, so take a look and stay tuned to Sneaker News for more Nike ‘SB’ news. via n-sb
