Steve Prefontaine’s Nike running signature model has been quite prolific over the past year-plus, and here we see a brand new style about to be unleashed for summer. The Nike Pre Montreal Racer ‘Tape Pack’ stands out from the earlier releases by ditching the classic suede/nylon approach in favor of a mesh upper for supreme breathability. This summertime style apparently takes its name from the piping that connects the breathable sections, and you can see more of how they come together in additional images after the jump.

After being resurrected in OG form then transmuted throughout the visible spectrum in a variety of new colorways, the Nike Pre Montreal Racer entered 2013 with some serious momentum. New releases this year continue to deliver, as we see another take on this suede/perfed nylon template. Following up on two very different takes on blue and orange combos, this latest Pre Montreal is the third, but you might nto immediately grasp that thanks to the dominance of steely shades on the upper. A pair previewed in January showed us what the Nike Pre Montreal Racer looks like in a Miami Dolphins-leaning palette. Here’s another colorway that is at least on paper potentially very similar, but as we see in more images below, the arrangement of the shades makes all the difference. This one mixes a Mid Turquoise suede with the orange-leaning Total Crimson on the mid panels, along with Sail and a smattering of Squadron Blue. Let us know which you prefer once you’ve seen all the angles and stick with Sneaker News for updates because the other pair can’t be too far off with these available for pre-order in advance of an April shipment from Titolo.

Following up on the Liberty London collaboration is another new Nike Pre Montreal Racer revelation that looks like an earlier tag-team effort. This black and Sport Grey Steve Prefontaine signature is just a bit of template alteration away from looking an awful lot like last spring’s J.Crew makeup. Liberty London included the LunarMTRL+ as one of the offerings in last summer’s ‘Lotus Jazz’ collection. And while the vast majority of their Nike Sportswear collabs have featured WMNS designations on the box, the recent AF1 Downtown means a mens release is far from impossible. So the neutral tones and lack of a ladies label makes us wonder if this Liberty x Nike Pre Montreal Racer might be a guy’s answer to the aforementioned Lunar update. The Nike Pre Montreal Racer is one of those retro runners that precedes the Air Max days, a more slimmed down silhouette with a different shaped Swoosh that reaches further back towards the Blue Ribbon Sports era. It looks as if the sneakers might be sticking around for another range of retros in 2013, with this sample pair showing off a clean combo of blues and greys (and just a bit of orange for the back tab).
