Following up on the Liberty London collaboration is another new Nike Pre Montreal Racer revelation that looks like an earlier tag-team effort.  This black and Sport Grey Steve Prefontaine signature is just a bit of template alteration away from looking an awful lot like last spring’s J.Crew makeup.  Have a closer look after the jump so you can note the differences and find yours available at select Nike Sportswear retailers like the Fayetteville door of Arkansas’ sneaker leaders, Rock City Kicks.

Liberty x Nike Pre Montreal Racer

Liberty London included the LunarMTRL+ as one of the offerings in last summer’s ‘Lotus Jazz’ collection.  And while the vast majority of their Nike Sportswear collabs have featured WMNS designations on the box, the recent AF1 Downtown means a mens release is far from impossible.  So the neutral tones and lack of a ladies label makes us wonder if this Liberty x Nike Pre Montreal Racer might be a guy’s answer to the aforementioned Lunar update.  These colors also appear on the women’s-only Dunk Sky High, so stick with Sneaker News for updates, and click through for more images in the meantime.

The Nike Pre Montreal Racer is one of those retro runners that precedes the Air Max days, a more slimmed down silhouette with a different shaped Swoosh that reaches further back towards the Blue Ribbon Sports era. It looks as if the sneakers might be sticking around for another range of retros in 2013, with this sample pair showing off a clean combo of blues and greys (and just a bit of orange for the back tab). Continue reading to take a look at this Nike Pre Montreal Racer sample, and if you wanna get a pair for yourself then check out the auction now from comradess on eBay.

Iconic American clothing retailer J.Crew has earned its fair share of attention from Sneaker News in recent months thanks to a few outstanding sets of New Balance 1400s.  But don’t forget that we previewed their upcoming collaboration with Nike Sportswear even before the first of those 1400s last July.  The J.Crew x Nike Pre Montreal Racer VNTG applies just about the simplest colorway imaginable in the OG blocking pattern found on the other pairs NSW brought along for this spring’s resurrection.  The black/grey/white trio has an utterly timeless appeal, which is exactly why they’re keeping pace with one of the most prominent trends this season, and you can grab yours now at J.Crew.

Nike Pre Montreal Racer QS – Black – Red – White

nike pre montreal racer black red summary Nike Pre Montreal Racer QS Black Red White

Nike Sportswear has so many classic models to choose from in their Beaverton, Oregon vaults that a whole bunch of great ones have yet to see the light of day for a retro release.  Few can match the historical legacy paved by the man for whom the Nike Pre Montreal Racer was designed and named, just as many would be hard pressed to come up with another standout distance runner who’s not a Kardashian in-law.  But while Bruce Jenner took gold in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympic Games on the strength of a win in the 1500m and a world record total, Steve Prefontaine neve made it to Montreal for his date with 5000m gold.  So in addition to being a blast from the past aesthetically and technologically, the Pre Montreal Racer is also a tribute to a man who made the Oregon Ducks’ wings famous long before they blinged on the Rose Bowl stage.  Click through to see this old school take on ‘bred’ and move quickly to pick up a pair from the only UK retailer who’ll have a part of the Quickstrike release: Size?

Nike Pre Montreal Racer Quickstrike

Imagine if LeBron James had come out of high school and followed the career path we’ve seen through, say, about season four, met with an untimely demise.  A closer analogy to Steve Prefontaine might actually be Drazen Petrovic, since both young athletes were killed in car accidents.  But where Petrovic remains a Croatian legend and one of the Nets’ all-timers, Pre was more like LeBron in the sense that he created a legacy of excellence early in life, had an impact well beyond his sport, and always wore the Nike Swoosh.  That’s just a bit of historical context for the Nike Pre Montreal Racer, a model so classic that we can’t pretend like that explanation was just for the ‘young’ sneakerheads.  This shoe was one of Nike’s first runners, a 1973 debut that showed Nike would stand behind Prefontaine’s push to capture that elusive 5000m gold at the ’76 games in Quebec.  But Pre never made it to Montreal, but thanks to the internet, we have the ability to visit England for a chance at the Quickstrike that’s only available in the UK at Size?.
