The Air Jordan IV ‘UNDFTD’ is one of those models whose amazing good looks and frustratingly limited numbers will ensure its value for the long-term, pairs these days selling in the mid to high four-digit price range on eBay. This 2005 release was an eye-opener to many in the sneaker world, as the olive green design offered an early glimpse into how much sneakers can benefit from earthy and other neutral shades. The color on these is such a key, in fact, that when sneaker customizer Desp1 created his Nike SB Blazer ‘UNDFTD’ Customs earlier this year, the 6-pair run sold out quickly but with feedback that he could have been a bit closer to the inspiration. With that in mind, here’s a new ‘UNDFTD’ Blazer High SB custom with a greener nylon upper; are they closer to the mark set by those legendary IVs? The Nike SB Blazer High’s latest excursion will have older sneakerheads and hip-hop fanatics buggin’ out thanks to a design that serves as both an aesthetic and thematic throwback to two decades ago. The ‘Low End Theory’ Blazer High SB is based on A Tribe Called Quest‘s 1991 classic by that same name, their flowy graphics and Afro-centric colorway another familiar package for well-versed sneakerheads, as we’ve already seen similar work on the Air Jordan 1 High Strap back in 2009. Nike SB has remixed a variety of classic Dunk colorways onto different heights than the originals or new silhouettes altogether, so if a black suede Bruin with an aqua Swoosh can earn the ‘Tiffany’ nickname, will we be referring to these Nike SB Blazer Highs as the ‘Pee-Wee Hermans’? They do indeed share a color scheme with the 2007 Dunk High SB that dropped as a part of the ‘Fallen Heroes Pack’, though the original’s suede was a more pure grey whereas this new Blazer SB appears to be an earthier hue. Apparently the ‘People’s Instinctive Travels’ at Nike SB have consisted of journeying through time, as Swoosh Skateboarding has reprized a variety of classic colorways on new models during 2011. This new Nike SB Blazer High represents a different kind of historical salute, their black suede uppers treated with a flowy tonal design pattern that along with the red and green accents echoes the Afrocentric aesthetics from A Tribe Called Quest‘s heyday. It’s a combination of design elements that hints at the album art from Tribe’s 1991 classic The Low End Theory and will likely remind experienced sneakerheads of similar Air Jordan 1 High Straps issued in ’09. West coast streetwear giants Undefeated have collaborated with Nike SB before, but never on the Blazer High model, and one sneaker customizer simply couldn’t be satisfied with that fact. So instead of setting up a meeting with Eddie Cruz, Desp1 took materials into his own hands and came up with this new Nike SB Blazer High ‘UNDFTD’ custom. They fit the brand’s military themes thanks to an olive rubberized leather that repels dirt and water. It’s a hearty material, but the designer says it’s so hard to use that even after experimenting with four different glues, the next four pair’s he’s crafting will be done in the customers’ choice of 1000 denier nylon or ripstop. Unlike in the real world (or at least the northern hemisphere, anyway) when July 1st is among the longest and usually warmest days of the entire year, the first day of Q3 starts the fall season for fashion. And it’s clear Nike Skateboarding is looking to help you ready for the inevitable decline into autumn, this collection of Nike SB footwear for July taking a significant turn toward richer, earthy colorways. We’ll start with the Nike SB Dunk Low Pro that takes its colors from the UK’s passports, a model that lends its deep red to the sockliner of the Blazer High SB in Classic Charcoal and Halo. The Stefan Janoski signature series gets two new models with a City Navy suede Mid and a black canvas and brass Low while Paul Rodriguez also gets two new shoes in the form of V-Rod and P-Rod 2.5s. Rounding out the group is an all but blacked-out Eric Koston 1 with a gum sole, and you can see all of these in more detail when you click on the jump below. Late last year, Dutch skate shop BenG released a Nike SB Blazer High collaboration that contrasted its white tumbled leather uppers with a black corduroy Swoosh. This super-simple, super-clean combo was paired with yellow heel embroidery and blue laces for one of the more refreshing takes on the subdued theme that’s been so common of late. But apparently, Ben G wasn’t always headed in that direction, as we see here from a scrapped sample that’s popped up in an online auction. These go with black heel embroidery and while that might seem to indicate an even subtler colorway, an all-orange vulcanized sole is added to ensure that never happens. We feel safe in saying the right choice was made for retail, but if you wanna get your hands on a piece of history, check out the US mens size 9 sample available from cheapskates9107 on eBay.
