sb dunk de la high Classics Revisited: De La Soul x Nike SB Dunk High (2005)

NIKE SB DUNK HIGH 2005 WEEK

A couple of weeks back we look at some of the best SB Dunk Lows from 2005, but that year was great for the Highs as well! We’ll kick things off with one of the wildest colorways ever – the “De La Soul”. Both the High and Low were inspired by the original artwork from the hip-hop group’s first “3 Feet High & Rising” album in 1989; the heel panel features the artwork with a vinyl-like material layered above the print. Finishing off the colorway was a unique mix of brown, orange, and green, with elephant print on the toe-box bringing back some of that ‘Supreme x SB Dunk’ flavor. These Highs are considered to be one of the best SB Dunk Highs of all-time and certainly deserve the lead role of this week’s Classics Revisited feature on ’05 releases.

Nike SB Dunk High Premium “3M” – Release Info

nike sb dunk high premium 3m release info Nike SB Dunk High Premium 3M Release Info

Reflective 3M is one of those materials that has its origins in utilitarian shoe design but has in recent years become more ‘standard’ and is occasionally used all-over to tremendous standout effect.  Jordan Brand in particular is known for embracing the shiny stuff, and their 2009 ‘Raging Bull’ DMP left us with an indelible memory of just how good it can look.  The Nike SB Dunk High pictured above could just as easily be called ‘Jake LaMotta’, its light-activated appearance clinching the Chicago Bulls look thanks to red details on the translucent-bottomed sole setup.  These look to be one of the year’s hottest SB releases with retailers like Brooklyn Projects getting limited quantities starting with (already gone) phone orders today for out-of-staters and then in-store tomorrow at the Melrose location.  Let us know what you think after you’ve seen more below and stick with Sneaker News for all Nike SB release dates.

In a piece of news that has us wondering how long it will be before Google charts the sneaker landscape with the clarity of its viral hit ‘Bacon Number’ applet, the latest Nike Skateboarding 2013 preview gives us a familiar cherry taste the likes of which has made for a smash hit Dunk SB before.  The Nike SB Dunk High will arrive for Q2 in an Ion Pink-Swooshed effort whose brown tones, white midsole and overall SB robustness make it easy to connect them to Stussy’s slightly more neopolitan Dunk Low Pro SB.  Stick with Sneaker News to find out when these arrive at retail and click through for more in the meantime.

Nike SB Dunk High – Green – White – Gum

A 3M pair just arrived at select European retailers, and before word of a US drop for those shiny Nike SB Dunk Highs, another pair reflects to us some high notes from the Dunk’s epic history.  This new design is a total throwback, from its classic varsity styling and BTTYS-ish blocking pattern, to the gum outsole and ever-present white midsole.  They’re reminiscent of Nike Sportswear styles from both 2008 and ’10 but offer arguably even more of a resemblance to SB’s own 2004 ‘Ghost’ release, and you can see more to draw your own comparisons below.  Next year’s St. Patrick’s Day Dunk SB is already on tap so expect these a bit later during the second quarter and stick with Sneaker News for US release info.

Sneaker News made comparisons between the newest Nike SB Dunk High Premium and the 2006 ‘Mork & Mindy’ edition, and now we see even more connections as this latest drop takes on even more of a spacesuit vibe.  Little did we know, the gunmetal upper on these new Premium Dunk High SBs isn’t a black shade, but more of a dark grey that indicates the presence of reflective 3M material, which means in certain lighting, an all-silver shoe.  This new wrinkle assures these will sell out swiftly when they arrive at US retailers, so check back with us for details because they’re already out at select Euro shops.
