Nike has debuted two new shades of purple in 2012 to capitalize on the growing use of pastels as near-neutral colors, the latest application of which comes on a model that’s one of the Swoosh’s subtler silhouettes.  The Nike SB Eric Koston looks just as good in Dusty Purple as it does in greys and other muted colorups and offers an understated color pop that does for your wardrobe what the ‘hidden’ technical elements including a LunarLon footbed can do for your skate game.  Click through to see more images of the ‘Dusty Purple’ Koston 1 and look for these at select Nike SB retailers next month.

It’s soon to be hybridized with Air Max 90 DNA, but here’s another upcoming Nike SB Koston 1 that has a vintage look far older than just two-plus decades. The latest Eric Koston signature sneaker from Swoosh skateboarding opts for a simple white and gum build, one of the most classic styles imaginable and a symbol of the return to basics in skate aesthetics after the ’00s saw peaks and recessions for both bulky silhouettes and oddball colorways. Examine the simple beauty of this upcoming Koston One and stick with Sneaker News for word on their release. Photos: Kasina

Nike SB Koston 1 – Sport Red – White – Matte Silver

March 27th, 2012 by | 1 comment

nike sb koston one sport red white metallic silver Nike SB Koston 1 Sport Red White Matte Silver

Among the earliest Nike SB Eric Koston 1s released upon the model’s debut last summer was a Sport Red edition that added the rarely utilized Tourmaline shade as an accent on its Swooshes. That mix of bold base and muted accent color made for an intriguing combo, but it also arguably got in the way of another simple style that’s every bit as trendy in 2012. These new Sport Red Koston 1s opt for a white Swoosh to match the midsole of a product that looks considerably cleaner than the aforementioned drop, if a tiny bit less versatile without the mint shade’s blending properties. These have that elegant look that’s absolutely killing it right now and they’re available at select SB shops like CNCPTS.

Eric Koston x Nike SB ‘Mr. Control It All’ Video

March 26th, 2012 by | 2 comments

eric koston x nike sb mr control it all Eric Koston x Nike SB Mr. Control It All Video

Why exactly is Eric Koston driving a big white van full of young skaters to a mysterious looking building out in the desert?!  From the looks of the place on the inside as well as the ‘NSRL’ labeling you see on Koston’s computer console, it seems like we’re on the inside of the Nike Sport Research Lab, even though the outside shot looks nothing like the picturesque Mia Hamm building.  Inside the testing facility is what really matters, where ‘Mr. Control It All’ instructs new SB Rider (and recent Tampa Pro third-place winner) Sean Malto to shred in a pair of the new red/white SB Koston 1′s and warns Justin Brock to get ready because he’s next.  We get to see the Nike Eric Koston excel under high-tech testing conditions that measure the kind of variables that’ll make its sequel even better.  And speaking of building on Koston’s work, Eric will be tweeting missions over the next short while for skaters to complete and submit to @NikeSB with hashtag #MrControlItAll for a chance to win one fo eight special Koston prize packs starting on March 30th.  Click through to see your jumping-off point and stick with Sneaker News for updates.

Nike SB Koston 1 x Air Max 90

The Nike SB Koston 1 launched last summer with a couple of Zoom Kobe VI-infused hybrid makeups, and now here’s our first look at a second mashup that goes in an unprecedented new direction.  The Kobe x Koston mashup made sense as something like the modern day answer to that Air Jordan 1 x Nike SB we’re still waiting for, but a classic runner is a bit of a reach, historically speaking.  Perhaps this new Koston 1 x Air Max 90 will be a part of the impending shift in SB/6.0 distribution, whereby more mall retailers will get the (former) SB signatures in a redesigned box.  These first two colorups include one that adds red accents to a grey/white base and another that has about as much connection to the AM95 ‘Neon’ as the former does the ‘Infrared’ 90s.  Click through to see both and stick with Sneaker News for release info along with the future of Nike SB.  via N-SB

Nike SB Koston One – Old Royal

After what looked like it was springing into action with all the rapidity of a Quickstrike, we’ve not heard more about the Air Jordan 1 x Nike SB.  Hopefully that project’s still in the works, but in the meantime, here’s a case where Swoosh skateboarding took a little something that Jordan Brand has utilized this spring.  The Nike SB Zoom Koston 1 is pictured above in Old Royal suede with Swan accents, the kind of simple yet effective color scheme that had people picking up the Air Jordan X a couple weeks back along with a couple complimentary designs.  This Koston 1 goes a step further than the two-tone look with its unique forefoot traction pattern going for the timeless gum look that’s enhanced so many skate sneakers over the years.  Click through to see that and more details, and expect these as part of the March 2012 Nike SB collection at retailers like Flatspot.

Nike SB Koston 1 – Tar – Redwood

nike sb koston 1 tar redwood Nike SB Koston 1 Tar Redwood

Included among the recently distributed February 2012 Nike SB footwear collection was an Eric Koston signature done in the simplest of all colorways.  That black/white getup is fairly similar to the Pimento-accented edition from last summer, just without the red, kinda like how the latest Nike SB Koston 1 sees its palette separated from one of February’s Dunk Low SBs by mere degrees.  Both the Tar and Redwood shades come off a bit earthier than the somewhat ‘Grit’-like Iron and Barn red used on that Dunk, so Swoosh skateboarding is covering all their bases when it comes to warmly organic lowtops as we wrap up the winter.  Check them out up close after the jump and grab yours at a Nike SB shop like Concepts.
