nike sb bruin snake Nike SB Zoom Bruin Year of the Snake Available

Nike has now completed a full cycle through the Chinese zodiac after beginning in 2002 with the Horse. The Year of the Snake has been the most fruitful by far, owing to the beautiful synchronicity between animal, the ease of applying its look to footwear and a huge trend in sneakers toward patterns. Even Nike’s Skateboarding division was set to get in on the festivities (a first), but after appearing in April, the Nike SB Zoom Bruin YOTS had gone AWOL. In a nice surprise, this pair popped up out of nowhere as available now, so take a closer look, then grab yours straight from the source at NikeStore.

Nike SB is in the middle of a transition.  So much so, that retailers that carry their sneakers are now receiving shipments of familiar silhouettes that’ve been stripped of their ‘SB’ branding.  This month’s Nike SB Zoom Eric Koston in white/gum and Stefan Janoski signatures in both heights signal wider distribution to come while Zoom Bruin and Dunk Mid both in white and soft neutrals still come with the same tags we’ve come to expect.  Click through to see each one detailed individually and let us know which you’re looking to cop from Nike SB stockists like DQM.

Nike SB Zoom Bruin ‘Swan’

The iconic Bruin basketball silhouette has been co-opted by Nike Sportswear, but let’s not forget which Swoosh division initially resurrected this 1972 classic. Its timeless lines have aged well in forty years of service, but we’re still waiting for a ruby anniversary colorway, as  this new Nike SB Zoom Bruin goes in the opposite direction, opting for a nearly ‘blank’ appearance where a grey leather Swoosh tops Swan suede–exactly the kind of thing you need to round out your summertime sneaker rotation. The SB-exclusive Zoom Air-embedded insoles make these an extra comfy ride with super boardfeel thanks to a traditional vulc sole, and they’re available now at a store whose name describes their own status within the Mitten: Premier.

Nike SB Zoom Bruin – Neutral Olive – Mint

Nike Sportswear has a new model called the Gyle on the way that offers a nod to its classic styling, but we haven’t seen a new Bruin lowtop from the Swoosh skateboarding division in a couple of months. That changes with this new Nike SB Zoom Bruin in Neutral Olive and Mint, a model whose two main colors are both fairly neutral and happen to balance each other out quite nicely, yet have to this point been rarely paired despite the major brands’ recent attention to wardrobe friendly designs like these. And that’s exactly what the Zoom-cushioned Bruin from Nike SB is all about: combining classic style with a modern fastidious approach; find yours at select retailers like Premier.

Nike SB Zoom Bruin – Baroque Brown – Tar

Starbucks has been pushing their new Skinny Mocha of late, and while the new Nike SB release pictured above doesn’t carry any direct coffee influence, it does indeed represent a slimmed down take on a classic SB style. This new Nike SB Zoom Bruin has an undeniable ‘Mocha’ look about it, a lighter-on-darker brown blocking pattern that worked so well on a couple of mid-’00s Dunk Low SBs. They’re more like the ‘Mocha II/Tweed’ for their use of a suede upper, but lean back to the 2004 original by adding a dark foxing band that resembles the Dunk’s outsole. These might not make for the kind of obvious recognition as the ‘Tiffany’ colorway, but it’s quite the versatile release and available now at CNCPTS.
