Nike Sky Force ’88 ‘Mighty Crown’ Gas Mask by Freehand Profit

Sneaker customizer (and we use that term somewhat loosely) Freehand Profit has made a name for himself with gasmask versions of popular kicks since we first saw his take on the Air Jordan 1 last April.  His latest might be the most obscure design employed to date, the Mighty Crown x Nike Sky Force 88 Lows that commemorated the Japanese sound system’s 20th anniversary last fall.  Like the Dunk Highs that accompanied them, Mighty Crown’s Sky Forces were a rich amalgamation of textures, and this mask’s silvery build is all the better for it.  Check out more photos below, let us know how these compare to standouts like the Swoosh-browed ‘Galaxy’ Dunk mask and stick with Sneaker News for all the best new customs.

Nike Sky Force ’88 ‘Safari Pack’

The star of new options for the Air Force 1 iD this month and soon to be unleashed on a huge variety of colorways celebrating its OG silo’s 25th anniversary, Safari print once again makes its mark on a Nike Sportswear classic. The Nike Sky Force 88 isn’t commemorating a round birthday like the AF1 or Air Safari, but it most definitely looks the part of an eighties baby with this vintage color-on-white blocking and tonal Safari hidden on the Swooshes and ankle collars. Two pairs each of the Mid and Low bring forth this totally classic yet brand new look and we have more images of each pair after the jump below. Photos: LTD

Nike Sky Force ’88 Low TXT – Soar + Black

March 7th, 2012 by | 1 comment

nike sky force 88 low txt soar black Nike Sky Force 88 Low TXT Soar + Black

Sneaker News just showed you a preview of the upcoming Sky Force 88 TXT in midtop form, a couple of vibrant nylon colorups done in today’s crisp colorblocking style. And though they don’t have the same immediate wow factor as the Action Red and Electric Green Mids, these new Nike Sky Force 88 Low TXT designs are indeed crafted from that same pattern. Monochromatic nylon builds give way to white on the lining and outsole of Black and Soar blue editions, but would you have wanted to see some high-energy designs in this bunch to match the Mids’ oomph? Let us know when you click through for more images and expect these at select Nike Sportswear retailers shortly. via Soleroom

Nike Sky Force ’88 Low VNTG – Team Red

In the world of sneakers, there’s no such thing as excessive Force. 2011 proved that, with Nike keeping up the strong support for the Air Force 1 line, but also branching out with a good bit of focus on the Nike Sky Force ’88 tip. The majority have come with the VNTG look, which is a make or break for many, but this pair tones done the oxidized treatment a bit in favor of a more nuanced weathering. The result is a deeper and darker team red tone for the uppers, and a midsole a bit cleaner than the standard VNTG fair from Nike Sportswear. Peep these lows after the jump and stick with us for word on a stateside release. via KC

Were it not for the strong run it’s put together in 2011, the Nike Sky Force ’88 may have been a forgotten sneaker to many. This year we’ve seen a range of releases for this relative of the Air Force 1, including collaborative joints like the Mighty Crown and Stussy versions, as well as some mean NSW designs. The aforementioned colorways are a bit on the flashy side, so here’s something a little more regular. A simple obsidian upper paired with a white swoosh and of course the slightly yellowed soles. Get the full look after the jump and grab the Nike Sky Force ’88 Low from End Clothing now.

Mighty Crown x Nike Dunk High + Sky Force ’88 Low – Releasing @ Nikestore

October 6th, 2011 by | 11 comments

nike mighty crown qs nikestore 05 Mighty Crown x Nike Dunk High + Sky Force 88 Low Releasing @ Nikestore

Nike Sportswear collaborations are very few and very far in-between these days, with most of the collaborative releases being a renewed partnership rather than a fresh coupling. Japan’s Mighty Crown isn’t a newbie when it comes to NSW collabs, and for the Holiday 2011 season, Nike Retro fans were in for a real treat when the East Asian music house was selected once again to design their own kicks – the Nike Dunk High and recently re-inserted Nike Sky Force ’88 Low. What’s the opposite of subtle? These bad boys, which clearly don’t shy away from intense materials and combinations, like elephant print, croc-skin, and ostrich. the Mighty Crown x Nike Sportswear releases have begun to pop up at select NSW boutiques ’round the globe, but those limited releases are likely gone by now. Fortunately, Nikestore will stock these babies tomorrow at midnight, so if you don’t want to miss out, check back with Nikestore tomorrow or cop a pair on eBay.

Mighty Crown x Nike Sportswear Dunk High + Sky Force ’88 Low

Japanese reggae crew Mighty Crown has never been shy about expressing its true colors, so if you think that either of the two collaborative releases are a bit ‘over the top’, just know that it’s Mighty Crown staying true to its own flavor. Officially dropping at select Nike Sportswear retailers worldwide is the Mighty Crown x Nike Sportswear Dunk High + Sky Force ’88 Low; the Dunk High has that ‘reverse’ appeal in which one shoe has that counterpoint effect on the other, with numerous materials like croc-skin, suede, leather, ostrich skin, woodgrain, elephant print, and more, and the Sky Force ’88 Low has its own jaw-dropping appeal with a metallic silver package utilizing generous portions of croc-skin print. Both pairs are finished off with Mighty Crown lace dubrae. Again, these are slated to release in October, so check out the official Nike Sportswear images and stay tuned for a release very soon.
