The Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid is enjoying its first retro run this year with a huge variety of colorways both new and old, both pristine and VNTG-style pre-yellowed. And as is the case with many big Nike Sportswear resurrections, this model has garnered some extra attention thanks to a collaboration with a similarly aged clothing label. The Stussy x Nike Sky Force Mid 88 pack makes you think that streetball could be equivalent to urban warfare, two no-nonsense tonal getups joined by two dark camouflage designs. And there’s a ‘Stussy Force’ t-shirt on tap with the Double-S brand’s distinct script, and you can see that along with the entire footwear collection in more images after the jump.

The Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid had to fight for its space in the spotlight when it first dropped so many years ago, coming out in the same year as the Air Jordan III and just a year after the Air Max 1. While you don’t see them around too much these days, the Sky Force ’88 definitely held its own, acting as a worthy heir to the “Force” lineage. Thankfully, Nike is showing the model a bit more love this year, both with the Stussy x Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid collaboration and with this monochrome Sky Force ’88 Mid VNTG. The vintage treatment on these is manifested in the form of the slightly beat looking soles, but the shoes are pretty fresh otherwise. The nice mix of greys and whites is certainly a familiar feel given the recent cool-grey craze and these do the color combo justice. Hit the jump for detailed photos of this Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid VNTG, available now at Burner.

Nike Sportswear wants to add just a brief pause to your response when you hear “Yo, did you see those new Forces?” this summer. The Air Force 1 is still rolling strong, but joining it in NSW’s classic b-ball rotation this year is the Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid in a variety of colorways ranging from simple yet modern two-toned looks to straight-up vintage designs. This above pictured colorway is somewhere in the middle, its white pure from a lack of pre-yellowing and yet, its Green Bay Packers-leaning colorway certainly a shout-out to the classic aesthetics contemporary to this model’s 1988 debut. Shawn Stussy’s eponymous clothing label has been around for longer than many if not most Sneaker News readers, so if Nike Sportswear ever wanted to find a collaborator to add some shine to a classic basketball model, there are few brands better capable of doing so. We’ve already seen them put out Blazers, Court Forces and All Courts, so the Stussy x Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid seems like a logical progression despite the brand being associated with surfing and skate culture. But they’re also known to be intimately connected with golden era hip-hop, too, so this half-camo/half-tonal four-pack can be seen as an amalgam of all these influences. Click through to see more shots of all four pairs of Stussy Sky Forces scheduled to release in July and stick with Sneaker News for the US release date.

Earlier this month Sneaker News gave you a look at the Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid Vintage Pack, which featured tonal nylon uppers and Nike’s trademark ‘Vintage’ treatment. One of those colorways features a rich tonal red nylon, much like this sample your see here, but there are some clear differences between the two. This sample version utilizes a red midsole and swoosh, and a hiking-boot like lacing fixture on the upper, much like the other tonal version we showed you during our Nike Sportswear Fall/Winter 2011 Preview. This sample Sky Force ’88 Mid also features a white inner lining and partial logo on the tongue. No word on a release just yet, but if you like what you see, cop this size 9 Promo Sample of the Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid from ginogreen201 on eBay.

Shawn Stussy’s namesake brand just unveiled its latest collaboration with Vans, but what about the Nike Sportswear tag team effort we previewed back in April? The Stussy x Nike Sky Force 88 Mid is back with a new round of images and some details regarding the four-pack’s release. We say four because that’s how many pairs showed up in the aforementioned initial preview, though the grey pair with its purple camo details comes off so much lighter than in the other images that we’re either looking at a change or perhaps a fifth member of the group. The blacked-out edition remains the same and you can see more images of both after the jump, then be sure to stick with Sneaker News for updates in advance of the July 9th release date. via Nike Stadium

They’re killing it with hybrids and performance and comfort upgraded classics, but perhaps Nike Sportswear’s single greatest strength is the sheer breadth of their vaults. Swoosh catalogs from the last five decades include some of the all-time greats; some we’ve seen (a lot), and some have been all but forgotten with time. The Nike Sky Force 88 Mid is a standout from the second class, a hidden gem in history’s mines that couldn’t more perfectly represent late ’80s basketball aesthetics than if they came with instructions for a hightop fade and a pair of the last non-Stockton short-shorts. Click on through to get a look at this Big Apple-flavored Sky Force 88 and pre-order yours today so CrookedTongues can send them as soon as they hit retail in July.

Many of our readers weren’t around when the Sky Force was first released, so Nike Sportswear is taken a concerted effort in educating the younger generation by re-releasing one of the more popular Nike Force basketball shoes of the late 80′s. These three seemingly pro-sports team uniform inspired colorways would defintely be hits in certain regions – the Blue/Orange a nice pick for Mets or Knicks fans, the Green/Yellow for Oaklandites, or the Black/White for Spurs or White Sox fans. There are plenty more colorways coming soon in Low-top form, so check out all three upcoming colorways after the jump and watch for these to hit Nike Sportswear retailers soon as they’ve already popped up at overseas retailers like Step.
