If the ‘South Beach’ LeBron 8s were so popular because of the storylines leading into the release of the Nike LeBron series’ most exuberant colorway to date, does that mean the Nike Sportswear lifestyle sneaker King James wore during ‘The Decision’ earn a similar gravity? Well the Nike Toki has already managed to stave off rumors of its demise and it remains NSW’s premier casual design, and now you’ll have a chance to create a pair exactly as you see them in your imagination. Will you go with a brown upper like LeBron, perhaps with a leather-wrapped midsole? Or maybe you’ll go for the traditional white vulc bottoms and add a bit of flavor via independently-colored eyelets? Sure the Nike Toki may not have the storied lineage of some of the other Swoosh models, having made its debut in 2008, but that’s no reason to sleep on this lifestyle silhouette. During its relatively short life span, this chukka sneaker from Nike Sportswear has gotten the premium treatment again and again (check out the recent Size? exclusives and these perforated joints for proof). As a shoe that doesn’t get too wild colorway wise, the Nike Toki looks best in these muted looks, like the so called “BBQ Brown” version shown here. For a model that’s had to deal with an unprecedented flood of competitors in the casual sneaker space, the Nike Toki is doing just fine. This midtop vulc-soled chukka is coming through with a mutant handful of new colorways for the holiday season, six new designs that each have their own classic appeal. There’s a maximum of two colors at work here not including the white sole walls, and you can choose from tonal red, white or grey editions or get a bit of contrast with black/grey, grey/black or navy/white. All six are available now at Nike Sportswear retailers like Primitive; which one(s) will you choose?

If you think Dunks are done to death and you’re on the lookout for some more lifestyle oriented drops from Nike Sportswear, check out the clean looking ‘Cranberry Pack’ featuring a Nike All Court Mid and a Nike Toki both dipped in a deep shade of red. The uppers on both pairs come in a premium full grade leather, with the embossed brown leather tongue tag breaking up the monochrome look. Both the Toki and the All Court Mid have been down this road before, and we could definitely get used to more premium releases for these overlooked models. With Nike Sportswear’s constantly expanding range of casually-oriented sneakers pushing their way into all corners of the sneakerhead culture, a few models are bound to be overshadowed and perhaps even forgotten. It hasn’t been too terribly long since the Nike Toki released in a new colorway, but it would indeed take something special from this vulc-soled chukka midtop sneaker to get it back atop the Swoosh lifestyle rankings. These two new Size?-exclusive Toki Mids might be just what the doctor ordered, then, their 500-pair limited run for white and black full grain leather pairs among the nicest we’ve seen since the model launched. When we talk about someone having ‘hops’, it’s generally a case of extraordinary jumping ability, but who’s to say you can’t put your hops on display in a casual setting? Nike Sportswear’s latest lifestyle release comes in a seasonally appropriate colorway named after a key ingredient enjoyed in brews year round, the Nike Toki Mid in Golden Hops suede. These are reminiscent of a variety of Timbo-like ‘wheat’ kicks we’ve seen in recent years, but the Toki’s distinct chukka-turned-sneaker lines make it a standout along with the unique faux carbon fiber weave on the heel. With the Nike Toki nearing the end of it’s lifespan, being replaced by the Hachi as Nike’s go-to chukka design, you’d be wise to pay extra attention as it’s not likely that you’ll get many more chances to cop these. This team red colorway carries on the tradition of clean design that the Nike Toki has represented for years now. Leather is the material of choice on these, which gets a perforated portion on the tongue that extends down to the toebox. Its success as a chukka-styled casual sneaker sufficient to resurrect the classic Sting in midtop form as the Hachi, the Nike Toki is one of those models we’ll be looking back upon in a couple decades with praise similar to other Swoosh greats. The Toki is back for the cold weather months in what’s likely its coziest design yet, a multcolored ‘Mexican Blanket’ motif that blends the Brigh Cerise shade of red with tonal reds, teal and black to achieve that Southwest US vibe.
