Certainly one of the more surprising inclusions of the Nike Sportswear “Area 72″ Collection is the Nike Vandal High; this classic Basketball model from the 1980′s has been a relatively quite silhouette over the years, releasing sporadically in basic color combinations without any high-energy designation. Nike aims to bring back the Vandal in big fashion as it is part of the first releases of the Area 72 Collection, so be sure to get yours at select Nike Sportswear retailers or right now from yellownsxt on eBay.

Nike Vandal High PRM QS “Area 72″

It’s about time the Vandal High some notice with these special edition releases, don’t you think? The Vandal is definitely one of the sleeper hits from the 80′s – an era that produces today’s NSW classics like the Air Force 1, Dunk, Court Force, etc., but the Vandal managed to elbow its way to the spotlight thanks to a series of understated releases like the ‘Tearaway’ joints by Geoff McFetridge, that co.jp purple canvas/silver swoosh joint (and that famous photo from Niketalk – OG heads know what we’re talking about), and several more that honestly don’t get the props they deserve. Does this ‘Area 72′ have enough to boost the Vandal back to the top? Check out the gallery below and let us know if you’re aiming for these next week.

Which pair from the Nike Sportswear ‘Area 72′ collection are you gunning for? The set runs five sneakers deep, with each release in the group outfitted with a spacy theme and little bit of ‘Raygun’ flavor. On display here are the Nike Lunar Force 1 ‘Area 72′, the Nike Vandal High ‘Area 72′, and the Nike Barkley Posite Max ‘Area’ 72′ all displayed in a rather appropriate Roswell type setting. Get these three after the jump and watch for the whole collection to drop during the 2013 NBA All-Star weekend. And keep in mind that Social Status is only reporting stock of these three pairs at the moment, so the five separate styles might be split up across separate retailers across the land.

Nike Vandal High “Area 72″

One word that can sum up the Nike Sportswear 2013 All-Star Pack: Surprising. The decision to go full force with Barkley models might not have been expected, but it’s the comeback of a rather overlooked model from the 80′s hoops catalog in the Nike Vandal that is equally shocking. Originating in 1985, the Nike Vandal was like a revision of the Air Force 1, arriving in leather and mesh forms and popping up on our news-feed in what were admittedly some boring colorways. This time around, it takes on an entirely more exotic shape, with a funky textured upper (like the Zoom Kobe VI), a translucent heel-tab, and a glowing outsole. The Vandal definitely deserves another comeback of this stature, but is this All-Star 2013 release the shoe to do it? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to circle your calendar for February 14th as these Vandals as well as the entire Area 72 Pack are set for a release on that date.

Nike Sportswear’s 2013 NBA All-Star collection features three classics, one updated icon and a brand new hybrid.  There’s an undertone of evolution/progression as we start with the first ever Nike Basketball shoe and move forward along the timeline to find phosphorescent accents lending a spacey edge to the rest of the pack.  With a concept that pulls together last year’s space theme with this year’s ASG site in Houston along with references to Nike’s former Roswell resident Raygun and the company’s founding date, you get a sense of past, present and future all rolled into one extremely eye-catching quintet.  Click through for a closer look at the ’Area 72′ Nike Air Force Max, Blazer Mid, Lunar Force 1, Barkley Posite Max and the most significant Vandal High release so far this decade, and stick with Sneaker News for updates as we approach the Thursday, February 14th release date.

Nike Sportswear 2013 All-Star Collection

nike sportswear 2013 all star collection Nike Sportswear 2013 All Star Collection

The bar was set incredibly high (so high it reached outer space) with last year’s Nike Basketball’s 2012 All-Star Pack, but aside from the trio of Basketball signatures, NSW models like the Dunk, Air Foamposite One, and Air Flight One were given a massive boost as well. Much is in anticipation regarding the 2013 set of NSW releases, and today we’re getting a first look at what’s in store; the Nike Barkley Posite Max, Air Force Max, Blazer Mid, Vandal High, and Lunar Force 1 Low are the included pieces of this year’s Nike Sportswear 2013 All-Star Collection, with the tie-in to Houston’s NASA Space Center offering up another reason to go beyond the Earth’s atmosphere once again.

Nike continues the story that began with last year’s ‘Big Bang’ by notifying us of a transmission that has been received at Area 72 – a top secret facility located in the desert in Houston and inspired by Nike’s year of birth – and what is revealed is indeed the Nike Sportwear All-Star Collection designed with galaxy themes, glow-in-the-dark highlights, and reflective panels for a truly magnificent feel. Raygun, the iconic Nike Basketball character that debuted a decade ago, returns as the lead in this Pack, with its logo present on the tongue of each shoe. Continue reading for a first look at this amazing set and stay tuned for a release of the 2013 All-Star Pack by Nike Sportswear beginning this February 14th.

Nike Vandal High – Grey – Black – Blue

nike vandal hi grey black blue white canvas 7 Nike Vandal High Grey Black Blue

It’s still pretty early in 2012, but by the looks of things so far the Nike Vandal High might be poised for a bit of a resurgence. Not a model that we generally see too frequently, we just gave you a look at this black and gold pair and we’re back already with a foggy colored version that mixes in some icy hits of blue. Abandoning the vintage bent of the aforementioned black/gold’s, these ditch the nylon for a leather look, which which fades to black across the piped off sections of the upper. There’s even a bit of canvas thrown in for the Swoosh overlay and the Nike branding on the back badge. Continue reading for the full look at head over to JD Sports now if you need this Nike Vandal High in your life.
