The latest pair to pop up evolves things just a bit, carrying the ‘Son of the Dragon’ moniker rather than the standard, and in this case a punchy sprite looking combo. Team USA vs. Spain – Gold Medal Game Recap

team usa olympic basketball sneakers gold medal game 46 570x366 Team USA vs. Spain Gold Medal Game Recap

Team USA has done it again. It wasn’t as easy as some expected, with our men’s Olympic basketball squad being tested a couple of times during these summer games, but now that it’s all said and done our elite group is going home with the gold. Their final hurdle was the Spanish national team, one of the deepest in terms of NBA players with big names like the brothers Gasol and Serge Ibaka putting in work.

The rematch of the 2008 Beijing meeting between USA and Spain served up another nail-biter for basketball fans worldwide, with the Spanish squad bringing things within one point at the halfway mark. With their work cut out for them Team USA rose to the challenge; Kevin Durant pulled down 30, Kobe continued to be one of the hardest working players in the world, Chris Paul had his deft play on full display, and LeBron James closed out his incredible run over the past nine months with some huge highlight plays and an Olympic gold medal. Turning to the sneaker side of things there were a few notable shake ups: Chris Paul hit the court in the upcoming Jordan CP3.VI, Durant showed up in the NIKE iD version of the Nike Zoom KDIV ‘USA’ rather than the retail release, Kobe skipped out on his gold medal sneaks, and LeBron of course wowed the world with the debut of his Nike LeBron X (more on that later). Another awesome year of Olympic basketball is in the books, with the USA squad proving beyond any unlikely doubts that they could grab the gold for the second time in a row. And while they did that their sneakers pushed the patriotic theme, the group of all Nike/Jordan Brand footwear worn by our men put on display here. Russell Westbrook stayed in the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2012, the big men of the group Kevin Love, Tyson Chandler, Lebron James, and Anthony Davis all showed off the new Nike Lunar Hyperdunk (with James Harden rocking a special low version), Deron Williams and Andre Iguadola had the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low, Kobe and KD kept it close with their sigs, and Melo and Chris Paul had the Jordan Super.Fly on feet while not doing the same. Nike Hyperdunk Low “Son Of The Dragon”

The globalization of the game of basketball was highlighted in 2012 not only because of the Olympic Games, but from the buzz surrounding an Asian-American kid from the Bay Area, who captured the hearts of basketball fans around the world. Jeremy Lin’s rise to stardom was a story unlike any other in the history of the NBA; from being undrafted out of Harvard to being the center of an awkward bidding war between two NBA franchises, Jeremy Lin continues to show his effusive gratitude regardless of what team he suits up for. This ‘Son Of The Dragon’ Pack of the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low – Lin’s unofficial shoe – is inspired by 2012′s Year of the Dragon festivities, using rich colorways and inspired graphics around both shoes. Lin was recently in Taiwan for a basketball clinic and to introduce the shoes himself, and luckily for us, the shoes will see a release soon enough (possibly as an Asia-exclusive). We’ve got a nice detailed look at both colorways below, so take a look and let us know which of the two ‘Sons’ you like better! via NikeBasketballTW

Team USA vs. Dominican Republic

July 13th, 2012 by | 6 comments

team usa vs dominican republic Team USA vs. Dominican Republic

Could this year’s USA Olympic men’s basketball team beat the 1992 Dream Team? Of course we’ll never get final word on that impossible but question but for what it’s worth a team of ESPN analysts did run 1,000 computer simulations to test the question, giving the 1992 team the victory 53.1 percent of the time by an average of one point. The thing is though that they don’t have to play the 1992 Dream Team, so we now arrive at the much simpler question: Can Team USA beat the current crop of international players? Last night’s exhibition match, the first time the team has played for a full game together so far, offered up a resounding “yes”.

Team USA beat the Dominican Republic with an impressive 113-59, all the while doing so in a killer crop of patriotic sneakers. Kevin Durant was the clear cut best performer, grabbing 24 points and 10 rebounds in that pending red, white, and blue version of the Nike Zoom KD IV. Kobe Bryant was also spotted in his USA flavored release of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII. The third piece of Nike Basketball’s puzzle was of course laced up in something beyond his own line for the first time in quite a while, with LeBron being the on-court spokesperson of sorts for the all new Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+. Beyond that Team USA also had Chris Paul in the Jordan CP3.V, Carmelo Anthony in an unseen Jordan Melo M8, and a host of others in various Hyperdunk and Hyperfuse iterations. Of course we’d be remiss to not touch on the footwear of the Dominican Republic team, who sported some similar red, white, and blue colorways of models like the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 and the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+. Stay with us after the jump for an extensive gallery featuring the likes of these modern day greats putting on for the USA for the first time this Summer and keep it here for more sneaker recaps from the Olympic stage. Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low – Jeremy Lin Away PE | Release Date

May 23rd, 2012 by | 5 comments

nike zoom hyperdunk 2011 low jeremy lin away pe 1 Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low Jeremy Lin Away PE | Release Date

With the New York Knicks about to award interim coach Mike Woodson with a multiyear contract, one can’t help but notice that ‘What if?’ would be second only to ‘Linsanity’ for 2011-12 team taglines. What if the Knicks had Woodson and Jeremy Lin from the start, and what if Amar’e had tapped into the power of ‘serenity now’? Might an improved regular season record and resultant easier path through the playoffs have culminated in Lin’s Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low ‘Away’ PE drop coinciding with an NYK/MIA Eastern Conference Finals matchup instead of their lopsided first round affair? It’s easy to let your imagination run wild with the kind of unpredictability we’ve already experienced, and with the summer right around the corner, Lin’s Hyperdunk 2011 Lows hitting retailers this Saturday, May 26th gives Knicks fans closure for this season of ‘could’ve beens’. Check out a set of new images after the jump and grab yours before this weekend’s rush from skit_japan on eBay.
